I’m playing Botticelli in Thread Games. I got an email when Elendil’s Hair replied to my post. I’d rather play through the message board than email, so I unsubscribed the email. Now I don’t see the thread anymore in the topic list. I went back to the old email and posted from there, but the thread still doesn’t appear in the topic list. What’s happening?
Are you going directly to the Thread Games Forum?
I see it near the top of the list currently.
Botticelli - Sept. 2020 It appears you were the last poster.
If you’re getting there some other way, the problem may be in that.
To try it out I muted this topic, figuring maybe the OP had done so to the other topic accidentally. I figured I’d work out where muted topics go, unmute it then give some advice. I could not work out how to unmute this topic, other than finding it in my browser history and then unmuting from within the topic. Anybody know how to find muted topics and unmute them?
This finds muted threads:
Alternatively:
Go into your profile; go to preferences; go to categories; scroll down to muted threads. Click show.
Once it shows, click on the thread; go to the bottom of the page and set it to something other than muted.
Very handy link. I had a bunch of threads muted, some on purpose and some by mistake from when we first went to Discourse.
I was able to Select All and then choose Notifications and put all the muted threads back to normal.
It’s not clear to me what the behavior is supposed to be here. Under preferences, there is an email preference you can set:
“Send me an email when someone quotes me, replies to my post, mentions my @username, or invites me to a topic”
But this does not appear to be tied (at least not explicitly) to the Notification Category preference section - Watched/Tracked/Muted.
Based on the OP’s experience, my guess is that hitting “unsubscribe” on a specific email sets that thread’s Notification Category to “Muted”, which both overrides the email preference and hides the thread. But it would be helpful if this were made clearer in the Preferences section.
And in particular - if you have emails enabled, it’s not clear to me that there’s any way to suppress emails for a specific thread without also hiding that thread.
That worked. Thanks!
