Thread for Discussion of Political Ramifications of Trump Injury from Shooting at the Butler, PA Rally

If nothing else, Trump appointed federal judges (not just the three Supreme Court justices but numerous District Court and Tax Court justices) who are collectively highly favorable to corporate interests. The corporate business community generally views the previous Trump administration pretty favorably, not least of which because he drew heavily from corporate ranks to populate the Cabinet and agency heads, and his ‘trade war’ allowed them to jack up prices and make record profits under the guise of supply chain disruptions, which has continued even though the supply chain issues mostly resolved themselves. “Businessmen” and investors are going to be neutral to favorable for Trump (depending on their industries), especially as he has made it clear he’ll accept virtually outright brides for favorable treatment.

You are assuming that your view of Trump—which is mostly based upon objective facts, and which I frankly share—is how everyone views Trump. The reality of the political environment is quite different, hence why Trump was polling at near parity with Biden despite the manifest ineptitude of his previous administration and his recent convictions, notwithstanding his brazen efforts to undermine legitimate electoral processes and democratic norms.

Think the Christian right will be OK with him practicing polygamy? Or maybe it doesn’t count if they’re just virtual brides.

(ignoring the typo)
Of course he’ll accept bribes. But what it’s taking too many of them too long to realize is that, having accepted the bribes, he won’t then follow up with the favorable treatment.

Not if the Trump campaign has anything to say about it. This photo is going to be slapped on almost every campaign mailing, and feature in half of his ads. They are not going to let people forget that Trump is an indomitable fighter who not even a snipers bullet could stop, and (for those of an evangelistic bent) god himself saved. The election is only 4 months away. They can easily milk this for that long.

Between this and the Biden too old narrative, the Dems. have pretty well lost anyone who is voting based on the superficial aspects of the two candidates. Whether he wins or not is going to come down to whether enough people recognize that Trump is a dangerously criminal lunatic to win the swing states.

Yeah, I’m thinking his moves to unity will be something along the lines of “I think we need to come together as a country unlike the traitorous Democrats who have tried to take me out first with lawsuits and now with a gun, and so must be destroyed by any means necessary before they destroy the country with their divisiveness.”

The usual explanation is that god let the sniper get close so that he could demonstrate his power by rescuing Trump. God can even use evil men to further his divine plan.

And the innocent in the crowd?

The Bible is full of “Redshirts” that get killed to promote His favorites.

Is there a 13 word statement that could possibly require more explanation if an alien landed on Earth.

Simply saying that some Christians are willing to ignore innocent bystanders because the narrative being pushed isn’t about them.

I’m…not an alien.

…for the record.

I think the Christian Right would be fine with Trump being found in bed with both a live boy and a dead girl as long as he keeps doing things that (in their wormy minds) portend the Apocalypse and allow them to advance their agenda to make the US a quasi-fascist “White Christian” nation.

Except that he already has previously, and almost certainly will again. His administration opened up millions of acres of protected Arctic land for oil development, reduced corporate taxes, and appointed federal judges at all levels that limited the scope of government regulation of which the most obvious and massive impact is the reversal on Chevron U. S. A. Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc., which essentially undermines the regulatory capabilities of the Environmental Protection Agency, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Federal Trade Commission, National Labor Relations Board, Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and many others which don’t have explicitly defined mandates about what and how they can regulate industries. Of all of the failed promises of the previous Trump Administration (remember “Wall”?) this is one area where Trump’s actions have actually mostly matched his rhetoric.

I’m going with “I like candidates who don’t get shot at.”

Demolition Ranch speaks.

The Wisest Justices In The Land have already ruled that quo pro quid is legal. I wonder if they’d also rule that a quid pro quo agreement is totally fine as long as you never actually receive the quo.

I think a good statement, I’m glad he avoided any politics (although the MAGAs will latch on to the mention of CNN at the end as an allusion to “fake news”, even though all the news channels mentioned DR).

If I were in his position, I’d be considering a rebrand. I know some would see it as “letting the terrorists win” or whatever, but I just wouldn’t want to be seen as endorsing what happened, nor for people wearing my merch to feel uncomfortable.

I said that to my wife as we watched live coverage of the event. Anyway, one of the ramifications of the attempted assassination is Republicans calling on Democrats to stop saying Trump is a threat to democracy. My ears are deaf to such pleadings since they’re coming from the party of insurrection.

That’s rich from the guys who sent this email to my (or should I say Hannibal Lecter’s) spam folder last week;

More to the point, the Republicans actually are a threat to democracy. It’s very possible that the Republicans are encouraging more violence against themselves by being a threat to democracy. And it should be pointed out that people need to vote to keep them out of office to mitigate the threat.

We currently don’t know what the motive was and the only reason the GOP (and a lot of mainstream media) are pointing at Democrats saying this stuff is because even a child could draw the connection to the GOP threat to democracy and the potential for violence. When Republicans threaten democracy and encourage political violence against their opponents, an unavoidable result of that is that people other than their target audience are going to hear them and might be encouraged to commit violent acts in the other direction.

He might have a point.

Suppose that bullet had been a couple of inches to the left and Donald Trump was hanging out with Richard Simmons and Ruth Westheimer right now.

Sure the Republicans would be eulogizing Trump and talking about what a loss the nation suffered with his death. But they’d also be looking at how they can now pick a better candidate who doesn’t have all of Trump’s negative baggage. And who would, with Trump out of the way, be able to steal Trump’s base without Trump running interference. Trump being dead is the best scenario the Republicans could have hoped for.

So maybe Trump’s survival is God stepping in to save America.

If so, then God really does work in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform.

Maybe God really hated that one guy, and Trump was the innocent bystander?
