What characters (i.e., " & ( ) !) are and are not allowed in thread titles? If this has already been covered, please point me to the appropriate thread.

I don’t think there are any restrictions on characters. There are some oddities when previewing titles with quotation marks, though. If you do that, you’ll want to make sure the ttext contained in the quotes doesn’t get truncated. Also, the vB tags are non-functional in topic titles. Other than that, I think anything goes.
The problem with quote marks was solved, and not the way he said. Look around for the thread.
I’m pretty sure the answer was do not preview.
And then they had some way to preview first and goback to cancel it out and repost, or some such.
