Press conference on now. Mayor and others spoke. So far no real new info. It does sound like the girls are in good condition. They were released from the hospital this morning.
They’re in for a big cultural shock. IPhones, Ipads a lot of changes in 10 years. They got to get GEDs and maybe college. They’re still young and can have bright futures.

And the neighborhoods both guys lived in were similar - old houses on tiny plots. How does nobody notice this stuff going on? Where are all the busybodies?

I kinda wondered the same thing. Not blaming anyone for not acting per se but that house really doesn’t look like an optimum place to hide 3 kidnapping victims for a decade. They must have had some serious “security” and never screwed it up to get away with it for that long.
I remember a contractor telling about some show he saw once. They moved some guy into house. And then they had him doing stranger and stranger things and they made sure to do while they neighbors would see it. Then they interviewed the neighbors and they all said nothing odd seemed up to them. So go figure.
And perps will probably never see the light of day again. And I’d even suspect they won’t last too long in prision either.
Well I’m no expert, but I’d say getting pregnant (presumably via repeated rape but they haven’t said that) then birthing without medical assistance, then caring for a newborn, might have set Amanda Berry’s escape plans back some.
I hope this story about the psychic telling Amanda Berry’s mother that her daughter was dead helps to turn people away from using such ridiculous superstitions. But I seriously doubt it.
…and I hope the Montel Williams’ Show producers feel suitably ashamed.
The news of this spread through the city like wildfire, and Charles Ramsey will be a local hero for a long, long time. I remember when both of the younger girls went missing; I remember their names and their photos, always on the news on the anniversaries of their disappearance. But now, people are literally dancing in the streets.
I don’t have patience for people saying they could have escaped so much sooner. You don’t know what the conditions were in that house, or how they were held captive . . . whether their restraints were physical or psychological.
If I was a judge, deciding a sentence for the kidnappers, I’d say that the men should be imprisoned until the women say they should be released. Or until that little girl gets to see her grandmother. That would be a looooong time.
Actually, I’d prefer death for the kidnappers, but I’d be satisfied with letting the victims make up a sentence.
If anyone’s actually saying they “could” (or should) have escaped sooner, then they’re either trolling or very stupid. Either way, it’s not worth time to address those criticisms.
I, for one, am morbidly curious about what happened. Maybe one or more of them will write a book about their experiences, like Jaycee Dugard did. One of the best e-books I ever bought!
I’m personally overjoyed that those women were found safe.
In the spirit of fighting fraudsters, I just went to Sylvia Browne’s website and gave her a piece of my mind. It made me feel a little bit better, but I’m not sure it will do any good.
…he is the master of “telling it like it is”, isn’t he? The reporter asked a couple of silly (but predictable) questions and loved how he didn’t get the traditional “stunned bystander” responses.
From the 9/11 phone call:
Also the photo of Amanda, her sister, and her daughter is just full of joy and hope. I see thousands of photographs every day. But this is my favourite photo of the year.
I’ve been following this on the news this morning. It’s really freaky thinking how these girls could be kept in a suburban house for so long without something like this happening earlier or people getting suspicious.
That Ramsay dude, I seriously love him. I heard his interview on the radio this morning, if he was any more laid back the coroner would be checking him for a pulse.
It’s sometimes hard to tell whether a local story makes it to national or international attention. Then a friend of mine in Norway emailed me with “Dude, your city is all over the news here. Especially that Ramsey guy!”
I don’t even remember the last time people here felt such jubilation. And totally unrelated to sports!
