Amanda Berry went missing on April 21, 2003 at the age of 16 (just before her 17th birthday). She was on her way home from her shift at Burger King and was never heard from again. More details.
Georgina “Gina” DeJesus went missing on April 2, 2004 at the age of 14. She was last seen not far from where Berry was last seen. More details.
Both girls - well, now women in their 20s - have been found alive in Cleveland.
They’re having a press conference right now at the hospital where the women are at but it’s mostly a doctor standing around saying “Sorry I can’t go in to more detail.”
There’s actually a third woman who was found, Michelle Knight, who was 21 when she went missing in 2002. They are also reporting that Amanda Berry’s daughter has been found so I guess she had a daughter in the past 10 years.
This is such amazing news! The missing posters are still up in various places…last year they even dug up a yard on the word of a convict who said he knew where Amanda was buried. So sad that Amanda’s mom passed away 7 years ago. There is absolutely no other news being reported in Cleveland tonight!
No one is saying much about the third woman, who has been missing 12 years. But the next few days are going to be interesting indeed.
Oh, I love the guy who rescued her! Listening to his interview, and when they asked him if he knew anyone else was living in there…he said “If I knew this last year I would have pulled this hero stuff last year!” He is amazingly funny! What a guy!
I’m trying to find a picture of Michelle Knight. I knew a girl of that name and age in college, in 1999-2000. She dropped off my radar. She came from somewhere in the northern Indiana/northern Ohio belt. There are probably a thousand Michelle Knights, but I wish I could find a picture!
Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight appeared to be in good health and were talking after being discovered in a home on the city’s west side, Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGarth said in a statement.
Yeah there were actually just 2 being reported when I first posted. Not sure why Knight was left out originally - could have been that her disappearance wasn’t hardly publicized like the other two, as she was 21 when he went missing.
There are also other people, kids, in the house.
I’d ask a mod to correct it but they kind of creep me out with all the “THE OP IS A DUMMY SO WE EDITED THEIR TITLE!” announcements they attach to edits
The first article I read said three women had been found, but only identified the first two. Sounded like they were still confirming Michelle Knight’s identity when the story broke.
We needed some good news after the events these past three weeks. There’s three really happy families celebrating tonight.
I recall thinking that a kidnap victim would never be found after the first few months. Then Jaycee Dugard was found after 18 years. That Utah girl was found after a year. So yes in rare cases kidnappers don’t always kill their victims.
It’s creepy to think that there are other people out there being held captive that we don’t know about.
I really wish that Amanda’s mother had lived to see her again. Nothing will ever make up for what Amanda lost by not getting to spend those years with her mom. This article makes it sound like even though she was rough around the edges Louwana really loved her daughter.
What also sucks is that not too long ago (2009) a dude was arrested and found guilty of murdering 11 women and burying them in his house in Cleveland. Now, he was on the East side and the current nutjob is on the West side but still Cleveland is not that big of a place. That’s a lot of missing women for one small city!
And the neighborhoods both guys lived in were similar - old houses on tiny plots. How does nobody notice this stuff going on? Where are all the busybodies?
CNN showed a picture of a woman who was identified as Amanda Berry in the ER with her sister, and a little girl who most likely is her daughter. They later showed them with the child cropped out. :dubious:
I kid, you’re absolutely right. Sometimes it’s almost too much to hold out hope, and then something like this happens. And yes, a tragedy beyond measure is the mom dying heartbroken at the loss of a child, never to see her found safe.
I haven’t read it reported yet, have they mentioned a motivation for the abductions? Was it sexual related or did this guy just want daughters he couldn’t have otherwise?
