I can’t recall seeing Michelle Knight in the homecoming video that ABC News ran. Georgina DeJesus had her head covered but raised a arm in a victory gesture.
Knight was already on the fringes when she was abducted. Her learning disability and family issues were in an article that I linked over on page 1. I’d think that coping with what happened will be even tougher for her.
But, the three women also have each other. Their shared will and bond got them through the horrors of the past ten years. It seems likely they’ll support each other in their new lives of freedom. It’s fortunate that they all lived just blocks away from each other.
Very clever, and well done. Can anyone tell us if that is an original song or just new vocal on top of a pre-existing background and/or melody (karaoke, maybe)?
I’m not sure they’d want to do that. If they all just want to move on and put this behind them, remaining friends might only remind them of things they’d much rather forget. I can see them staying in touch and close for a time, but eventually, they could just drift apart.
Assuming they had any real closeness. I’ve heard of cases like this where the victims were manipulated into distrusting each other so they wouldn’t form any bond with each other or work together to escape.
I wish the cops were more specific about Castro’s brothers. Did the three women clear them or not? Their faces are plastered all over the news for the past 2 days. Severely damaging their reputations.
The wording here is a bit evasive. Not involved in the kidnapping. So did they have any involvement or not? Such a simple question these three women could answer with one word. Were these men ever in the house with you? Yes/No.
Clearing suspects needs to be done quickly when they’ve already been slandered in the news.
About the brothers, they may not have been involved in the abductions per se, but police may well be investigating whether they participated in any of the abuse inflicted on the victims.
Yesterday as I passed the neighborhood where all this is going down I lost track after counting 12 news trucks. Wish the girls had just at least felt up to a quick step out onto their porches and a fast “thanks for caring, happy to be home, talk to you after the trial” and send all these news folk home. I’ll count how many are sitting there this morning.

They said the crime house was in a pretty rough neighborhood. But not so bad that the residents didn’t get out and enjoy their yards. Walk to McDonalds.

Only five trucks this morning. I would characterize that neighborhood as fairly rough… I don’t feel the need to lock my doors when I drive by, and there are much worse neighborhoods. But housing there is all 1940’s stock, very rough and worn, working class area. No new houses except the three Habitat for Humanity ones they built ten years ago. Lots of rentals, but not an area of town I would have been comfortable with my kids living in… Though they actually lived about 8 blocks away in Tremont in a similar neighborhood with a looney tune and a drug dealer across the street and a Diners, Driveins and Dives featured place behind them!
Both families came from the same hometown’s vicinity back in the Island . The local media have reported great consternation created by the news in the area and among the extended families and their neighbors, reactions are mostly shocked, dismayed and in the case of Castro’s relatives, quite mortified.
And another Castro daughter is in a mental hospital for trying to slash her 11 month old baby’s throat. (The baby survived and the mother was ruled NGRI.) WTF is wrong with that family’s genes?
Apparently Castro intentionally caused the girls to have miscarriages. This is probably going to become a major case in the anti-abortion activists.
I’m wondering if he kept them solely for his own use (and perhaps his brothers) or if he prostituted them.
I remember when Pulp Fiction came out I thought the scene with “The Gimp” was over the top comic book evil. Since then there have been several cases that are worse. (Christopher Hitchens actually used probably the most depraved case- the Austrian man who kept his daughter and some of the children she bore him locked in a basement- in his arguments against the existence of a benevolent deity.) OTOH, it makes you wonder if Natalie Holloway or other famous presumed dead missing people might still be alive.
Every time something like this happens I wonder how they manage to walk around pretending to be human but then they have had a lifetime to learn to fake empathy and decency. It’s scarey to think of those you care for out in a world where the fakers may be watching and plotting all the while only caring for their own pleasure and secretly believing everyone else only a means to that end.
