In my Great Lakes dialect, so far as I can tell, I pronounce “hearty” and “hardy” the same. ⁢

Yeah, claiming “hearty” and “hardy” are not homophones seems weird for a dictionary. They aren’t homophones everywhere, but they are throughout most of the United States.
