Three men freeze to death in a friend's backyard and aren't found for three days

This says “party hearty” was the original:

In my Great Lakes dialect, so far as I can tell, I pronounce “hearty” and “hardy” the same.

How to spell it is a mystery; maybe we should call on Frank & Joe to solve it

Yeah, claiming “hearty” and “hardy” are not homophones seems weird for a dictionary. They aren’t homophones everywhere, but they are throughout most of the United States.

I’m definitely not from that part of the USA; they sound obviously different when I say them. There’re plenty of lazy speech in my habits too; but that particular merger is not one of them.

This is all fascinating, but maybe a new thread would be better? It would be nice to keep this one for updates on the case.

A year on, and no developments.

Well, I heard they are still dead.

No answers? They discovered cocaine and fentanyl in their bodies. Overdoses of those drugs can lead to those results.

No gnews is good gnews?

I think the ‘answers’ are whether or not the homeowner or party host will face criminal charges. The article seems to imply that that is possibly forthcoming.

Everybody got wasted. They all passed out. Some of them were outdoors.

They did not need to OD. It was chilly out (below 40F, later well below 30). Being zonked while in a cold place can easily lead one to sit down and get too much hypothermia. After a couple hours, one would be beyond the point of being able to get up to get help.

Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd charged Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson with:
delivery of a controlled substance (two counts)
involuntary manslaughter (three counts)

This article writes as if we knew who Ivory Carson was. Do we? A quick googling doesn’t bring up anything useful.

Carson admitted to police he sold cocaine by the gram to Johnson, Willis, Harrington and McGeeney before Jan. 1, 2024.

Here’s a direct link to Mr. Carson’s charges.

And Mr. Willis.

Not mentioned in the 2 links above, KCTV5 just said that Willis was charged with providing the fentanyl.
