Three nuisance problems with Firefox

I did a search here and at a Mozilla forum with no success.

First nuisance: no Go button for the search bar. When I use the built in search engines, I usually cut-and-paste, but I have to slide my keyboard out to hit “Enter.” A Go button (or whatever the proper name is) would be great. Are there any extensions for that?

Second nuisance: I can’t easily access bookmarks in fullscreen mode. In Mozilla, the bookmarks menu remained when I went fullscreen but it doesn’t in Firefox. I know I can open a sidebar but that stays visible all the time and that takes up screen space.

Third nuisance: Firefox freezes for about 30 seconds when I click on the Go button in the Menu bar. Then Firefox hangs for a few seconds whenever I open a new tab. I don’t have to use it often so it isn’t that big a deal but I’d like it to be fixed.

Nuisance #1:

I have Firefox 1.0.2 and I have a Go button right between the address bar and the search bar.
Nuisance #2:

In Full Screen mode press “Alt-B” on your keyboard, and it will bring up your bookmarks. You could probably also use a mouse gesture extension to bring it up, but I don’t use mouse gestures.

Nuisance #3:

Could be a rogue plugin/extension?

You might be better off posting your questions on the mozilla forum.

Go here.

  1. Go to View - Toolbars - Customize, and you can drag a Go button to wherever you’d like.

  2. You can get your bookmarks toolbar by clicking View - Toolbars - Bookmarks Toolbar. Obviously, you can then fiddle with the bookmarks displayed directly, or under Bookmarks - Manage Bookmarks. Not sure that’s what you’re looking for.

Ah, you mean no Go button specific to the search. The regular Go button is specific to the URL bar, not the search bar.

Sorry, can’t help you.

Instead of using C & P, try highlighting the phrase you want to search for, then right click it. You should have an option on the context menu saying “Search Web for” whatever you highlighted. Click that and it will use whatever search engine you have selected in the Search box.

Yep.

That’s it! Thank you!

No, it isn’t that. The Bookmarks Toolbar dissapears in fullscreen, unless I missed something. I’m looking for something like in IE where the Favorites menu. It’s just irritating having to switch from fullscreen to the regular screen to access my bookmarks.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Go to View > Toolbars > Customize…

Drag the Bookmarks button to your navigation toolbar (next to your address bar or wherever). Now You’ll have this button when you go fullscreen.

Excellent! Thanks a bunch.

It turns out that I had a corrupted profile. I followed these instructions. When backing up your profile folder, be sure to copy the right one. I didn’t copy the one with my saved passwords. It 's just a nuisance though.

Glad you got that worked out pulehoopo.

I never knew that! Granted, I probably should have, but I didn’t, and it’s been right there in the little drop down menu but apparently I never noticed. You just made me smile like a kid with a shiny new slinky, thanks!

In addition to the suggestions already given, you can use Quick Search bookmarks. IIRC, the Google quick-search is already there when you install Firefox, so you can just type “g puppies” into the address bar (not the search bar) and it’ll automatically google for the word “puppies.” Then you can eliminate the search bar entirely, if you want to.
