Can you link to these posts, so we can know if they’re as pathetic as the example you’ve cited in your OP?
I think at least two of those are the same person.

Because a longtime member, Jarbabyj/TinyHam/Fatgirl was just banned from the boards for less. I think it’s interesting - but mostly unfair and ridiculous - that there’s such a double standard around here for posters that are clearly in the “in crowd.” CalMeacham has something like 18-trillion posts, so it’s clear that he’s and old-timer (and seems to be an all-around good guy) and that it’s been long established that his entire family is allowed to use one screen name.
I see it as being no different than one person having socks; if you respond to CalMeacham, how do you know you’re not responding to “Millical?” Or “Pepper Mill?” Or “Cheeselog?” etc.
Why does another poster get banned for a lesser offense (starting a new screen name here for a clean start)?
Poor IDK is getting overworked, doing all your posts lately – give him a (permanent) break and let another personality fragment do something.
HA! HA! I’m picking on 12 year old girls.
Someone occasionally relaying a question on behalf a family member is rather common and has little if any relationship to the behavior the no sock rule was designed to prevent, namely posters adopting multiple identities as a deliberate deception or to get around a moderator ruling.
Also, my great grandmother wanted me to ask you why you’re such a useless testicle all the time.
At least there’s been no plate smashing…yet.
That might have been TLDR though.
I really have nothing to add here.
However, my pet ferret, Dingus, would like to offer some commentary on the subject; so without further ado:
bnuyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyfjjjjjjjjjjjjyrrrrrrr6666666666666688888888888op’l’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’'ppppppppppppppppppppppp909dfsssssss4553feeaeewqacccccccccccccbnmmmmmm,/?
Less? Are you retarded or something? She tried to sneak in with a new username and pretend to be completely new to the boards. Twice. In what twisted manner can that possibly be less than openly allowing family members to post through one’s account?
No, jarbaby was banned because she started a completely separate account, despite being the same person. And I can barely think of anyone who better exemplified being part of the ‘in-crowd’.
People who have let other people, usually spouses or children, use their account for oen post have been mildly reproved not to do it again.
Well, of course, Dingus, that pretty much goes without saying. I must admit that for a ferret, it was mighty perspicacious of you to catch on so quickly.
Because it 1) dilutes the one-one ratio that we strive for here. Q.E.D. is Q.E.D. when he posts - you know that it’s him. Helen’s Eidolon is not also Q.E.D. under a different name. Likewise, Q.E.D. isn’t actually four people with four completely different personalities sharing one screen name, so when you respond to him, you know that it’s him. I see both situations - sock or multiple people - as having the same result, which is diluting “who’s who” and “who am I actually talking to” on this board.
2), It robs this board of revenue. What’s to keep Miller from sharing the “Miller” name with me, Helen’s Eidolon, Badbadrubberpiggy, Aesiron, Anastaseon, and Indygirl? That way, we all just use the name and save $15 a year, or we split the $15 seven ways. If the board is hurting bad enough to take anti-semitic banner ads that appear in the middle of threads, I’d imagine anyone diverting revenue from this place would be discouraged.
Cite?
Key word here is “I”. Let the mods do the seeing, okay? Seriously, and not letting my annoyance at life and at you get the better of me, I think you would have been absolutely right to report the post, and I’d be mildly surprised if the mods don’t make some comment. But you’re acting like an ass.
Giraffe’s sock? Oh, picking on .
Your Honor, opposing counsel just asked and answered his own question. Can we move on to why Florida and Oregon are not near each other?
Stranger
Because you asked why I started a thread, you dunce.
as far as I knew, this isn’t allowed, either.
If two members of a family post, they’re supposed to have their own accounts. Some times one will accidentally post under the others name when they forgot to log out, but afaik, they’re not allowed to ‘share’ an account, period.
wrt the child issue, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone get their panties in a bunch if one person posts “my kid/so/friend wants to know” once in a while. tomndeb, ime, has (nearly) always been tom, though when he (they) signed up w/that user name, it wasn’t that big a deal. but I’ve no recollection of deb ever posting under that screen name in my 7 plus years.
I’ll give you just one thing here–Cal probably shouldn’t have let MilliCal type the post. I’m not aware that he has ever before. And, the fact that her mother, Pepper Mill suggested the questiong is a non-starter. I’m sure many of your multiple personae have convinced others in YOUR head to post a question, no matter how stupid.
So, I’ll send an email to Cal, telling him this was a bad idea.
As to your comparison with jarbabyj, et al--------not even close.
But thanks for bringing this to our attention.
But this was not a “My kid wants to know…” it was “Here’s 'MilliCal, my kid. Now, I’ll turn the mic over to her…” and then this “MilliCal” actually wrote an entire post first-hand and posted it, using the CalMeacham account. Then took responses.
I don’t want anyone to think I’m being a jerk - I’m just concerned for the integrity of the board, and for the safety of minors that might be tempted to post here. There was a big fracas a while back with a child molester that was using the board to groom younger posters, and if “MilliCal” is too young to even post on the board (under 13), that would probably be like catnip to other molester-posters lurking out there. What happens, legally, if someone young posts here and then gets into an incident with a molester - who’s in trouble? That’s why there’s the no-under-13 rule, among other reasons. I just want to keep this place fair and safe for everyone.
