(Inspired by the “Guess what was in our chimney” thread)
Friday night around 10 p.m., I was drifting off to sleep when I heard
Thump!
My husband was in the bathroom with the fan on and didn’t hear it. We both looked around and couldn’t find anything that had fallen. We fell asleep.
The next morning, I found out what it had been. (No, nothing stink bug related or bad.)
Any guesses? I’ll post the answer tomorrow.

Bird hit the window?
Something in the basement fall over?
Just one of those ‘things that go bump in the night’.
Zombies tryin’ to open the door? Cat in the dryer?
It was probably a squirrel or, if you live in an area where they can be found, an elephant.
But thumps are about the most dreaded sounds if you’ve ever had someone suddenly fall over in the house.
The monster under the bed died.

Sudden_Kestrel:
Your moai fell over?
They do get top heavy when you try to decorate them.
Someone knocking down your mailbox, like someone did to my mailbox Friday night?
Well, if it was still there in the morning, I’m guessing not an animal, so…newspaper delivered way early?
Octopus! I’m guessing octopus!
Drunk sister passing out and falling on the door.
I only know one thing…it’s not lupus!
Cat knocking the box fan out of the window? That’s what mine was last night.
The thing I notice about odd noises is often you hear them, but don’t quite pay attention. After the third or fourth time, though, you realize, “Hey, what is that noise?”
So you start to pay attention and wait.
And the noise stops.
And when you go about your business, it starts up again.
