Thursday is Hawaiian Shirt Day!

At least it is according to some mucky-muck who sent out an All Hands email. rah.

We’re in the midst of Teammate Appreciation Week. (We don’t have coworkers - we have teammates. Sis boom bah) Yesterday, there was cake over in the other building. Thursday is the shirt thing. I expect there’s other stuff going on.

Yes, I feel my morale rising to new heights. No, seriously, I do. Because that’s what it’s all about - funny shirts and cake. I’m waiting for the proclamation of “Wacky Hat Day” or “Wear Your Clothes Backwards Day” just like the kids in middle school do. When they declared red, white, and blue day, I wore green. I’m such a rebel.

I can’t be the only one who hates this silly stuff at work. Do share. Reassure me that I don’t work for the only emotionally stunted organization.

For the record, I don’t own a Hawaiian short and even if I did, I doubt that I’d wear it. I may dress in black. I can’t pull off goth, but I can still have fun.

It’s a proven fact that wacky shirts increase productivity and sales and are beneficial to your company. Bad clothes, conversely, bring the entire company down, sinking it forever. Like plaid pants and muumuus.

according to dantheman my oufit choice of the day is bringing down the place. And here I thought these orange and purple plaid pants and this daisy print muumuu were the perfect day brightening combination.

FCM I’m all with you on this. They tried to do it here. I told em to knock it off and pretend they never had those thoughts.

I won.

Besides, FRIDAY is the Hawaiian Shirt Gonzo Friday Happy Hour. Everyone knows that. What’s this Thursday crap? You can’t be productive wearing bad clothes on a Thursday. At least on a Friday you’re already with one foot in the weekend.

Well, swampbear, you’ve managed to hurt my brain with your wardrobe choice. On the up side, I think we can lay to rest that notion that gay men have taste and style. :stuck_out_tongue:

On the other hand, it’s a proven fact that women in Hawaii don’t wear shirts - just grass skirts and coconut bras. So if I can find a couple of coconuts that are big enough…

This thread reminds me of that movie, Office Space.
I’m sure some of you out there have seen it, and can relate.

NONONONO!
The coconut bras were only brought in by missionaries (usually while demonstrating missionary position), so if you really want to be authentic you have to wear just the skirt and a lei.

I assure you, morale will not be the only thing going up!

FairyChatMom, you are obviously being supervised by kindegarten teachers. I suggest liberal amounts of animal crackers and cherry Kool-aid. If they still don’t behave, take away their nap mat, crayons, and felt board.

It’s unofficial where I work. And it’s Friday. Every Friday. And I actually really enjoy it (although being a woman, I don’t partake).

Be a rebel. Wear a pair of Hawaiian Chuck Taylors. At least you’ll be comfy!

Since I can wear jeans, t’s and sneaks to work anyway, a designated clothing-style day is more of a bother to me than anything. I’ll just be my usual comfy self and treat this like every other “special day” they dream up here. I’ll ignore it till it goes away.

I am such an old grouch…

I wore a Hawaiian shirt every day last week and at least once very regular week.

And I think you sound just loverly, swampy.

Nonsense, FCM. I have both taste and style. I just don’t use em both at the same time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Homebrew likes my outfit. WOOHOO! See, I’d wear anything he wanted me to wear. C’mere and dress me Homebrew baybee!

Less is more, my dear.

FCM you must work for the same tool I do (literally. BTW, I work at Pax). I saw the same email this morning and my first and only reaction was, “WTF, did I wake up in high school this morning?” I honestly thought this was something that only happened on “spirit days” in junior high and high school. Sigh. Reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon I saw not long ago. The boss decides to revoke casual Friday because productivity is down. Dilbert questions the decision by asking if the lack of productivity might instead be linked to incompetent management and poor business planning. The bosses reply: “No, I blame it on comfortable pants.”

bittersweet, I thought this thread was going to have something to do with Office Space. Oh well, just don’t let all the brightly colored shirts make you forget the coversheet on your TPS report.

At a place I recently worked (small start-up), we were always casual at work.

Our fun trick was to have everyone dress up in shirt and tie / dress or business suit whenever a new employee was showing up for his first day. This after they’d been there to interview and seen us all running around in shorts and t-shirts. Sometimes we waited 'til the second day to tell them that we really hadn’t changed our dress code.

=)

Friday is HSD at my job. They even issued me an official HS complete with company logo on my first day. It sat in its plastic wrapper on the back corner of my desk for weeks until I finally gave it away to a co-worker. People gave me a hard time for not participating at first and still occasionally do. I tell them that I have a policy to not show up for work in costume. Ever.

Haj

Can your bosses move it up a day?

'Coz Wednesday is King Kamehameha Day, celebrated throughout Hawai’i (true).

Also, in Hawai’i, the shirts in question are called aloha shirts, not Hawai’ian shirts (also true).

No kidding? That’s where I want to go from here! I need a job there next June - you guys got a vacancy for a GS-0861-13 or GS-0830-13? I’ve worked both. It’s my thread - I can hijack it!!

haj - we were issued golf-style shirts with the command logo on the front. They were white. And thin. No one I work with needs to see my bras in that much detail. I gave the shirt to my husband. I don’t think he ever wore it either.

spiff, this isn’t about Hawaii, it’s about Teamwork and morale… and cake.

I’m thinking I should wear my Bike Week T-shirt that day.

Oh yeah, and I love Office Space!
