Thyroid deficiency/symptoms of depression?

I have been dealing w/ a kind lethargy for about 6-7 years, it’s very debilitating. I asked my primary care physician (PCP), several years ago, if I might have a depression. He asked a few obvious questions and gave me a scrip for an antidepressant, when that didn’t work he tried two, or three, more w/ no effect. He then suggested a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist prescribed yet another antidepressant, again w/ no results. At this point I just gave up and accepted that I had to live w/ it.
Recently I have seen a specialist about another problem, which required a bunch of testing. The specialist informed me that I had a serious thyroid deficiency and suggested that I see my PCP for help w/ this. I asked the specialist what effect this deficiency might have and he said that listlessness and a general lack of energy were classic symptoms. I have an appt. w/ my PCP next week, but I’m curious if this might have been my problem all along.
Anyone else experienced this, or have any insight on thyroid deficiency?

I couldn’t decide which link on hypothyroidism and depression might best answer your question. You choose.
Good luck.
