Tick enema eating KIDNEY STONE put me in the hospital!

Thursday morning woke up with so much pain, I could hardly breathe. Cramping, sweating, gasping for air, extreme nausea, violent vomitig, all the while with a searing pain in my kidney area.

I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I took a hot shower to try and ease the back pain. It didn’t help. The pain was far more intense than aything I’ve ever felt. And by this time, I could tell it was in or near my left kidney. That’s when I realised I hadn’t been able to urinate yet even though I had an extreme urge to relieve myself.

Well, that got my attention, and I forced myself over to the phone to make an appointment with my doctor. They said I might want to just go the hospital, if the pain is that bad.

Called cousin who took me to hospital about 11:00am The ER was really busy, but they put me through right away. Afer several morphine shots and a bag of saline, they took a cat scan and found a 4mm stone in the ureter, the tube from kidney to bladder.

6mm is the size they go after with other treatments. Since mine was 4mm, I had an option for those, but they recommended passing it naturally. So, more morphine and then some anti nausea meds becuase I still had severe nausea, which worried the doctors enough to keep me in ER/MDU overnight. Went through five bags of saline and maybe 16 morphine shots. Stone was obviously moving, they told me.

The continued nausea concerned the Docs and they tried a different drug that chemo patients use. Worked some, but still nausea.

Finally got un-nauseated enough to take meds orally, and cousin took me to her house. And now I’m well enough to be in my own place.

I’m currently passing blood clots, doc thought I might. Based on what Docs told me, it feels like the stone finally made it through the ureter into the bladder. Passing through the urethra will be painful, too. But, at least that is temporary. And that will mean the end of my ordial.

So, 31 hrs in the hospital, Over 50 hours now of oral meds, and one more big bad thing left to happen.

On the plus side, the Doctor told me I’m in very good health and reletively good shape, except for all this. And he was very wierded out by my lack of response to their regular nausea meds. I go back Monday for a follow up and to turn in whatever the pee strainer caught so they can have an idea what diet and exercise regimen to put me on.

I had a slew of visitors and phone calls from friends and family, which was nice. And a real pretty little girl (gf) stayed late into the night until I told her to go home. The night nurse thought I was some sort of ladies man, with all the good looking women coming to see me. I told all but 3 of them are related to me. My men friends came by, too. Seriously, I must’ve had 25 visitors during my stay. And a few more dropped by cousin’s place while I was there. Makes me feel special…[sniff]

Oh yeah, no work for a week, since I’m in construction/remodel. Time to get caught up on all my office stuff. Maybe help my graphix/printer friend for a while, since he’s way behind.

How was your weekend? ;j

Wow, not fun! Mr. Butrscotch had kidney stones – smaller than yours – a few years ago, and it was Not a Pretty Picture. I’m glad everything’s…um…passing okay, though! Take it easy and good luck with the rest of it!!!

Ow. You have my full sympathies.

I have never had a kidney stone, but when and if I get one, I am sure I will finally be thankful for having a short penis.

You have my sympathy NoClueBoy! After how much pain people suffer from kidney stones this past year, it ranks up there on my list of “Bad Diseases I Hope I Don’t Get.” Hopefully, this will be a one time event for you!

My sympathies NoClueBoy! That’s how it started with me too! My stones came out of the blue, although since I’m female the, ahem, passing process was somewhat different. I never had children but my urologist has told me that female patients informed him that kidney stone pain was worse than childbearing.

You take care of yourself, rest up, try and let others do the work for you. If you ever have to have a lithotripsy, let me know, they aren’t as bad as all that, and sure as heck are better than invasive surgery!

P.S. So that’s why we haven’t seen you in the sci-fi thread! Believe me, kidney stones are a valid excuse!:stuck_out_tongue:

youch, not fun. you have my sympathies

I have had gallstones. They are most certainly comparable.

You have my utmost empathy.

Checking in on you again…

It’s astonishing what a little jagged bit of calcium can do to a person.

The “no cheese” rule may apply here.

Let us know how you do this week and thereafter, NCB!

Upon reading the OP:

Ow ow ow ow OW

My utter and sincere sympathies to you, NCB.

Studying for finals seems a lot less painful now.

Poor woogums! Be good to yourself and none of that brave ‘ain’t gonna take my meds’ crud.

Oh yeah-- tick enemas? Those must be tiny! I wonder if you have to use tweezers?

:frowning:

I feel your pain…literally. Just passed one of those motherfuckers last week. That’s the fourth one in about fifteen years - but the first one was the worst, though. Just as a bit of consolation, the worst is over for you. Once the stone is in the bladder, you are pretty much home free; your urethra is much larger in diameter that your ureters, so the stone shouldn’t have any problem making it’s grand exit.

Ouch, ow, and holyfuckthishurtswhatthehellisthisshit…

Despite the thread title, your intial description gave me a gallstone flashback, too. Especially waking up with PAIN out of the blue, like that.

My extreme sympathy mate, both on what’s been, and what’s yet to come. Keep us posted.

Having had one myself (a mere one millimetre, but by God it was bad enough) I will second the “Ow Ow Ows” being uttered. Sympathies, and best wishes.

Welcome to the club.

Good luck, NoClueBoy.

No jokes from me in this post.
I suspect that it would hurt to laugh.

Ow. That seriously sucks.

Feel better, NCB. The osmotic eel sends his best wishes. Wants to know if he can help (I told him probably not).

Do guys get these more often than women? God I hope so.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better.

Thaks, everyone!

I’m pretty sure it passed the uterer already and I’m just waiting to pass it completly. LoneCorndog, that’s exactly what my doctor said. Good to have some confirmation of that.

Right now, it feels like I’m nursing a deep knife wound in my back. Not a phantom pain, more like a general soreness. My fever is gone, I can also eat now.
