Ticketmaster hacked

I don’t feel sorry for them at all, just the people whose data has been stolen. I hope Australia nails them to the wall, but I fear it’s like cutting off the heads of a hydra.

It was the lead item on the morning news in Australia. It’s now approaching midnight and not a word from them in response. I don’t know about the rest of the world, but a few hacks in Australia have shown there is no great way to respond, but the definite worst way is to maintain radio silence and offer no explanation or context or to hide from the understandably angry millions.

Apparently Ticketmaster is less dominant here than in the US, with other ticketing agencies stll having significant shares in the game. I’ve also booked a few tickets recently with Humanitix, which runs a more ethical profit sharing structure. It has only been for small events and really only being a booking platform, but they gave a $4 million donation to a charity I follow, so something is working. I’m sure there are many performers who would be happy to detox their ticketing for their fans’ and their own benefit.
