Tiger needs more surgery. It also appears that he was playing on a fractured tibia in additition to the bum knee.
well, that’s three Majors I don’t have to pay any attention to this year. Whoever does win those things should probably get asterisks next to their names.
It does suck but we haven’t put asterisks next to NBA champions just since Jordan is retired. He’ll have excellent care and I wish him a successful rehab and return to dominance. As much of an influence as he apparently is, maybe this’ll encourage others considering corrective surgery to go ahead and schedule.
I had ACL surgery less than a month ago, and the way my rehab has been going, I feel like I could play golf in another 2-4 weeks (but I can’t play rugby for another 6 months). Too bad those Majors are just outside of that window.
Just two. The British Open and the PGA Championship.
I love watching the British Open so I’ll be paying attention. The PGA Championship always seem to get lost. I can’t beleive I’ve actually watched pre-season NFL football instead of the PGA during August.
Yep. Anyone claiming that Woods was faking or exaggerating is a right dick. And Goosen didn’t even get his facts straight. Woods grunted and grimaced on plenty of good shots.
Not only that, but it looks like he was actually covering the amount of pain he was really in. I’ve never tried to play 91 holes of golf on a broken leg, but I would probably be crying my ass off after the first round.
On the one hand, I’m sorry to hear that Tiger is out for the season.
On the other hand, I hope this means that he will really rest and recuperate properly and completely rather than hustling to get back to the golf course.
Not to mention the fact that it would’ve made sense even if he had only grimaced on bad ones, since the ones that hurt were likely the ones that put most stress on the knee, and thus the ones he couldn’t play as well as normal.
Oh horseshit. That’s no more true than portraying anyone who bought into Woods doubling over after a bad shot as pussies and fans of drama queens. Judging from the artice, there was open speculation in the locker room. This is what they’d seen prior to his public displays of pain. Retief was a dick for saying it to reporters, for airing it in Tiger’s face, but he saw what he saw and had an opinion. Everyone’s entitled to that.
You don’t think there might have been a little bit of sour grapes in that locker room speculation? I think it was baseless carping from tour players who resent all the Tiger adulation. They might have more cause for that speculation if Tiger had ever in his career showed a propensity for excuse making or drama queenery, but he never has. He’s always taken his losses like a man and never made excuses for them, even when he missed the cut at the '06 US Open. It would be wildly uncharacteristic for him to suddenly turn into a Premiere League soccer player when he’s leading a Major.
Claiming he was faking or exaggerating in the absence of strong evidence is being a dick, by definition. So was your commentary to the same extent in the other thread. As was pointed out then to you, and should have been pointed out by others to Goosen, he had plenty of times he showed significant pain on good shots. Claiming faking is nothing but the typical sour grapes over the fact he’s the best in the world and gets a lot of attention.
Dio, I’ve no idea what motives someone else brings to the equation but for other tour players that certainly sounds reasonable, given how competitive they must be to compete at that level. They also see things that you and I don’t, so who knows what all went into their opinion. They were hardly alone though. Isn’t is going to get a little tedious after awhile to try and discern the reasons behind every sentiment that differs from your own?
DSYoungEsq, what was expressed in that thread by others was an opinion, not some truth to which God has made you or anyone else privy. Frankly, some of it was so ridiculous it was better to just smile at leave it there to reek by itself.
I don’t think Tiger is faking a damn thing. I’ve been scoped too. It hurts. I’m also no so much of a damn fanatic that I gush at every single thing some public figure does. Sorry but I have a reasonable and healthy skepticism about most everything and don’t give it up just because someone kicks ass in a sport. I don’t see him as being above playing to the crowd’s sentiments. You do. Thing is, I also could not possibly care any less that you see things differently.
My understanding is that Tiger said he was good to go before the US Open. Now he says he had a torn ACL and stress fractures since last season. Was he being less than forthright then, or now? We will never know.
My personal belief is that there is very little that Tiger says or does that is not without calculation as to how it affects his public image and bottomline. And to the extent he chooses to be zealously protective of his private information (something that is entirely understandable and his right), such privacy invites speculation - and that speculation will not all be favorable.
IMO Tiger is the best golfer there has ever been (tho he has not yet proven to be the best over the longest time), and the most dominant athlete ever in any sport. But as a golf fan I’m sick and tired of hearing about him, and bored with tourneys in which no one steps up to challege him. So I will personally be more interested in the rest of the season absent a dominating Tiger.
The guy has earned and enjoyed tremendous success by any possible measure. It doesn’t break my heart that an occasional doubt or criticism is tossed his way. And it surprises me when fans seem to almost take personal offense at any criticism of an athlete/celebrity.
