Tigers released Sheffield

Tigers cut Hessman and Cleland. Hessman has some real power but they kept Larish on the roster.Cleland has had a couple chances. I think he can play but there are too many outfielders.

Sounds like Sheff is on his way to the Mets.

I heard that Dusty Baker and Walt Jockettey are trying to see if he’d fit with the Reds. Please, no, for all that is holy.

He is just a DH. he got hurt when he insisted that he play outfield. When he was not getting hrt he was hurting the team. He is not suited to the NL. If he can get some of his bat back it is great to watch. He hits HRs that are rocket line drives.

Neither is Adam Dunn, but that didn’t prevent the Nationals from signing him to a multi-year contract.

Shame to stop at 499. But he should.

Christ almighty no!

But thanks for the tip on Josh Anderson. He’s heading to my fantasy team.

Well yeah, but Dunn can still hit.

And how! But the argument was against an NL team signing a bat-only defensive-liable player. Anyone know how exactly that’s going to work in DC? Baseball Prospectus is projecting over 300 plate appearances for Nick Johnson. Ridiculous injury jokes aside, where’s he going to get them?

I know Dunn is typically pulled after about 4 PAs so they can get a decent glove out in the field - but could that honestly account for that much playing time for Nick? Or do they plan on Dunn being in the outfield ocassionally? If he does get time in the OF, will it be only as Teddy Roosevelt in the Presidential Race?

Sorry for the side-question, but $15,000 for 81 games is $185 a game. Isn’t that insanely expensive? Braves season tickets start at $249, up to about $4,300 for dugout seats. I’m pretty ignorant about MLB, but golly…

Now I heard on the radio on the way home from work that the Mets have in fact signed him. No cite.

Omar Minaya (the Mets GM) doesn’t sell me much on this signing. Though I admit, while reading this thread last night I thought, hey, for the league minimum ($400,000?) the Mets should get him.

Tigers pay 13.6 mill of his 14 mill contract. Mets do not have a huge commitment.
