Tim Schafer was recently on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon promoting his new game Brütal Legend. Is this the first time a game designer has been on a late night talk show promoting his own product? Usually it would be a celebrity attached to the game. In Brütal Legends case it could have been Jack black, and I recall Tiger Woods went on talk shows to promote his golf game. Tim Schafer handled the interview pretty well IMHO.
Don’t know if it counts as a talk show, but Will Wright was on *Colbert Report * in December of 2006. Link. Do you remember what talk show you saw him in? *Sim city 2000 *came out in 1993.
Jimmy Fallon usually does have video game previews on his show, as I recall the developers or people w/ Project Natal showed up and let Jimmy and the other guest play around with the system as a demo to show it off and preview it for the masses.
Jimmy’s show has been pretty good about that- he certainly does cater to the electronically minded more so with his Twitter accounts, his web episodes, and the various games and electronics that are previewed on his show.
I also recall that he played Tiger Woods at Tiger Woods 10? Whichever the newest game that was coming out, he got to play with Tiger for a few holes (on the Wii I want to say?), and he’s also done product placement for Microsoft’s Bing! Search engine by including it in one of the various games/audience participation things that they do.
He’s had Felicia Day on his show and did a video blog with her at one point promoting her webseries The Guild. The interview on his show was funny; from my perspective, the audience seemed a little bewildered when Jimmy and Felicia talked about gaming, as if they weren’t quite following what was going on.
