Tim Tebow, go away!

The person who cares is the minor leaguer who gets bumped fom the roster to make a place for this guy. I doubt Tebow’s teammates are going to be thrilled with his presence nor will his manager or coaches. Baseball is like that.

Tebow won’t be committing to the Instructional league full time. He’s getting weekends off to broadcast college football.

That says something about his level of commitment. Instructional is only a few weeks of training. Starts Sept 18 and ends early Oct. Missing all three weekends will be significant.

I guess don’t quit your day job applies here. Even Tebow knows this probably won’t work out.

Tebow did well enough in the Instructional league to take the next big step. The Arizona Fall League is a big step for a former high school player.

He can do well and prove that he should be taken seriously. Or he may be overwhelmed and his critics and skeptics will be proven right.

I’m not making any predications. Let’s wait and see how Tebow does in the AFL against real talent.

The Mets are sending outfielder Tim Tebow to the Arizona Fall League after cutting short their instructional league with Hurricane Mathew approaching Florida. Tebow is scheduled to report Sunday and play for the Scottsdale Scorpions.

I dont blame Tim Tebow for any of this. As long as there is media and public interest, he wont go away.

Of course, Tim Tebow is an ESPN employee and so both him and the network have an interest in keeping Tebow stories alive.

Any ex athlete will tell you that giving up organized athletics is the hardest transition in their life. I only played sports in high school and college. I measured my life by sports. Giving up sports was tough. I played pickup games for another ten years whenever I could.

Tebow excelled in college and couldn’t cut it in the NFL. He’s still relatively young and he’s in terrific physical condition. I can understand his desire to get back into organized sports. It doesn’t matter if he ever plays in the big leagues. Just being on a team and competing is what matters. The minor leagues are competitive and they have their own league championships.

Tebow can have a lot of fun and make some money in the minors. I’d be thrilled to get that opportunity. It depends upon the mindset. If playing in the majors is someone’s only benchmark for success then they are setting themselves up for crushing disappointment.

I don’t think Tebow will fall into that trap. He knows that he’s pushing 30. He’s entering a new sport. I think he will be satisfied suiting up and playing baseball at whatever level he qualifies for. Thankfully he won’t be facing 300 lb linebackers trying to rip his head off.

It’s the press pushing the idea that he has to make the majors.

I plan to get tickets for the Arkansas Travelers next year. They are AA and usually have a good team. It’s been a few years since I went. I used to take my kids when they were younger.

Minor league is legitimate baseball and very competitive. I’d compare it to Division II college sports. Division I is the sexy league that gets all the TV time and press. The coaches and Division I schools make ridiculous amounts of money. But you’d be surprised how good Division II sports can be. They play just as hard and have just as much school pride for their teams.

Through three games as of today, 0-for-9 with three strikeouts, 2 walks, an RBI and a run.

Granted, the Arizona Fall League is typically for the best minor league players to refine their craft in front of an audience of scouts and execs, and not for 29-year-old projects to get their feet wet, so the deck is definitely stacked against him. They gotta know if the man can play, and I guess their method is to chuck him straight into the deep end.

Looks like he’s doing wonders for the umpires’ heath care system, though.

After an 0-for-13 start, numb nutz gets a hit.

Well, it looks like he’s going away now.

Doesn’t sound like he’s necessarily “going away” just yet, though he did little to impress in the AFL. The last paragraph in that story:
