More than once, I have opened a thread, only to discover that I went there previously. My mind fog didn’t let me see anything familiar when I highlighted the question.
There is a date and time listed above ‘Last Post’. Could not the same thing be done under the name of the OP? I know that I don’t look at date and time once I open a thread, so, I’m always surprised when a Mod jumps in and says…we frown on resurrecting 3 year old posts…
Good idea, bad idea? What say you?
Actually, this sort of thing has been debated at vBulletin. The consensus seems to be that the current software (or even the software in development) cannot track each and every user and their use of the system in that fashion and certainly not for thousands of members.

Tuba, I don’t think you’re discussing the same sort of thing the OP is. What ltfire is (I think) asking for would not be anything personalized for thousands of different members. Rather, he (it is “he”, isn’t it?) is suggesting that the forum page listing the threads could include the date when the OP was posted, in addition to the date when the last post was made. One database entry per thread, not one per user. This would be at least as easy as the currently-implemented timestamp for last post, and quite possibly easier, since it would never change for a given thread.
But . . . isn’t that what the little icons on the left hand side tell you?
They don’t give you an exact time, but they do tell you if it’s old material or new stuff.

Which is why I was so confused.
Let me try this again.
Open GQ, and the very first post says,
Sticky: Have A Computer Question?” Read This First.
The Thread starter is XASH.
Why can’t we put the date of this post under the posters name?
I see that a poster by the name of IRFINCHI, responded at 10:42 AM on 06/05/05.
I have to open the thread to see when XASH posted the original thread. That was on 06/05/04, at 07:41 PM.
More than a year ago.
Clearer?
I did find something in the system settings; however, it has this little warning next to it: “There is optional user information that you may display on each post. These options require a bit of processing time to calculate.”
It’s probably not a good idea to stress the hamsters further.
I’m sorry we’re not able to give you what you want here.

…But…but…it was for the Masses! I don’t count…
Oh the humanity…
