Why restrict caroling to Christmas time? Since the Lent season is well underway, I thought y’all might enjoy a Lent carol I wrote a couple decades ago. Just got around to putting it up on the YouTubes this year!
Not to give the game away here, but I’m not really a big fan of lent…
Lent is not supposed to be celebrated. It is merely observed.
Precisely.
How 'bout:
*“There’ll be food around the corner,
Food around the corner,
Food around the corner for me…
Hallelujah brother!
Food around the corner,
Food around the corner,
Food around the corner for me!”
*
Dammit, now I’m hearing that cartoon flea singing in my head!
I’m not clear on his line about “There’ll be no more meatless Tuesdays,” though – was that a depression-era tighten-your-belt thing, or a World War 2 rationing thing?
<pokes around on the Intertubes>
Apparently, “Meatless Tuesdays” were a World War 1 invention, to prevent the need for rationing. Along with “Wheatless Wednesdays.”
I gave up Lent for Lent.
