Cyros, I hope everything goes well for you and that it happens SOON! I can imagine how frustrating it is. I’m only 10 1/2 weeks and I’m already impatient. At least I’m feeling more pregnant lately. I’m curvier in my belly and boobier in my boobs. My husband is calling me Busty McGrew.
I’ve had my second pregnancy dream last night. First of all, I dreamed that I’m having a boy (despite my husband’s IRL assurance that it’s definitely a girl). Has anyone had a dream that they were having a particular sex and it turned out correct? I’ve heard that from other people and wonder how accurate others’ dreams were?
In the same dream, the baby was outside of my tummy, but still stuck to me (that’s how I found out the sex), then all of a sudden, it was inside me again and I fell asleep and woke up to the baby just sliding out with only one grunt from me. Now THAT’s a great delivery! [crosses fingers]
Pushkin: Congratulations! It’s great that you want to be involved and are excited. Your emotional support is going to be so valuable, regardless of whether you and the mother are together. And you never know. Anything could happen.
Geobabe: I can’t believe you’re 32 weeks already! And the babies have dropped - Wow! Have they done any additional ultrasounds to give you an idea how big they are? One of the women in my online group just had twins at 37 weeks - 7 and 7.5 pounds!
Keep us posted on the gestational diabetes. I know they decided to start me on insulin once a pattern of spikes was established. With me, I had trouble mostly in the morning initially, but as the pregnancy progressed, my glucose levels rose as well. It sounds like you’ve been doing well so far, so that’s really promising.
Shana: What’s going on? Any more contractions or signs?
Nutty Bunny: First trimester seemed so unbearably long. You don’t feel movement yet, you don’t look pregnant, you feel like crap. I found time started to speed up again in the second trimester. And the dreams! I haven’t had any lately (I don’t think I’ve been sleeping enough to dream) but in the beginning, I had some crazy ones. I used to dream that I misplaced the baby and then find I had put it under the kitchen sink with the household chemicals! Or that I had put the baby in the car seat on the roof of the car and drove away. Bizarre. I never had any dreams about the sex of the baby, though.
I’ve noticed that the mum of my child to be is so noticably pregnant. I was apart from her for two or three weeks and she suddenly got a lot bumpier (although she doesn’t like the term “bump”) and that made her a lot more, erm, enticing. Although a bit of a scare after sex earlier on in the pregnancy acts as a bit of a cold shower on things.
Not had any gender dreams, I just automatically refer to the baby as he and the mum refers to the baby as she. Suspicions from an earlier scan would seem to suggest a girl is on the cards but we’ll know for sure later in the month after the big scan. I wanted to know the gender of the child and the Mum changed her mind and decided she’d like to know as well.
Good luck with your C Section Cyros !! I’m hoping and praying everything goes well for you. Before you know it you’ll have a beautiful baby in your arms! I know things will be hectic after you give birth, but I’m hoping for an update and pictures!!
Nutty Bunny , I hear you on the Busty McGrew thing. I am 39 weeks starting tomorrow. I’ve gone from a C cup to an E - and my milk hasn’t even come in yet  …I have to say, I’m a bit concerned. Do they even make bras in F or G cups??? Well yes, I suppose they do…but I keep thinking, “How are they ever going to look the same again when all this is over?” Boo hoo, I guess they won’t.
Also, congrats to Pushkin and Geobabe ! I’m glad to hear everyone is doing so well.
As for me, my contractions from the fiery pits of Hades have stopped. I’m not sure why. For the last 2 days I haven’t had any pain (no complaints here!) - So I’ve been cleaning my house like a mad woman, buying baby clothes, diapers, washing dogs…Uh oh, am I nesting? Isn’t that a sign that you’re going to go into labor? Hh, well, I’m not going to hold my breath. I still have until the 16th…
No, if you are lucky (huh) like me, you’ll go EVEN SMALLER than you were before (but flatter and floppier.)
I can say that eventually my nipples lost their amazing elasticity and went back to the more normal rubbery state. At their most flexible, I could stretch them over six inches. (Which was a useful attribute as both my kids would turn around to see who just came in a room, while breastfeeding WITHOUT LETTING GO! Eeep.)
Thanks! I will definitely post pictures and an update.
Today I distinctly felt a hand under my belly button. I call my husband over and he was freaked out too. The baby has been wiggling like crazy today. I can feel it everywhere, this bizarre “rolling” sensation.
I’m fairly calm about the surgery. They will be doing spinal anesthetic instead of an epidural. I’ve had a spinal before, when my appendix was removed in the early 90s and although I didn’t like it, I didn’t have any complications either.
I was reading “What to expect in the first year” today and it said after spinal anesthetic (as opposed to epidural) for c-section, you can’t move for 12 to 24 hours! I’m hoping that’s not necessarily accurate. I need to be able to sit up in a wheelchair in order to get to the NICU. We’ll see, I guess.
I still find it hard to believe there’s been a tiny human growing in there this whole time. Very surreal.
The doc yesterday said my BG levels look good, so I don’t need to go on medication, which is a relief. It just took me a couple weeks to get the hang of when, what, and how much to eat–I had to completely change my eating habits, since I was used to waiting until I was REALLY hungry and then having a big meal. Now I eat as soon as I start to get hungry, and have a small amount.
The tech did a quick ultrasound to get heart rates and check a couple things, but didn’t do any measurements this time. They were about 3-3/4 pounds last week, and one was something like 53rd percentile and the other 70th or so for growth, so they’re coming along nicely. 7 and 7.5! That’s a lotta babies to be hauling around!
I felt a lump a few days ago that made me go, “That’s a foot!” It really is kind of freaky when you can start feeling actual body parts. Cool, too, but still. Freaky.
Gosh Geobabe , that is 14 1/2 pounds of babies to carry around, not to mention the placentas? Gracious! And to think I’m complaining…Glad the twins are doing well
It is a bizarre thing to feel body parts. I think I felt an elbow today!
Hokkaido Brit and lee …I’ll be happy if I get my old boobage back (if at all possible). Here’s hoping!
To clarify, the 14-1/2 pounds of babies do not belong to me, that was referring to Cyros’ post. I’ve only got about 8 lbs going right now. (snort only…)
Argh…is anyone else having trouble with hip pain? For about the last week, my hips have been aching so bad while laying in bed I can hardly stand it. I’d been having problems with insomnia anyway, and waking up with this pain surely doesn’t help. Anybody had any luck relieving it?
I had that toward the end of my last pregnancy…agony, isn’t it? I used a heating pad, and that helped a bit. I think it’s because you’re ligaments and everything are loosening.
I just noticed you said you’re waking up with it in the night. You probably don’t want to go to sleep with a heating pad on, then. Another idea would be a wheat pillow. They sell them at the drug store (and probably WalMart). You throw it in the microwave to warm it up. You can use it like a heating pad, except there’s less chance of burning your skin and you don’t have to worry about setting the bed on fire while you sleep. I just got one of these because the pregnancy is making my lupus-related arthritis flare up in my hands. I go to sleep with the thing wrapped around my fingers and it really helps. It really holds the heat for quite a long while.
[Horshack]Oooooo, ooooo, ooooo, oooooo![/Horshack]
I know this one. IANAPregnant Doper or brand-new parent (my ‘baby’ is nine), but my hips hurt a lot at the end of both my pregnancies. It’s the cartilidge in your hips relaxing and loosening to prepare for the birth. Open wide!
And yes, I remember watching the baby tumble and roll and poke. It was fun to see something and realize, “That’s a foot! There’s a hand! That’s an elbow!”
And the ever-popular, “Get the hell off my bladder!”
Good luck to all of you. I didn’t realize this was such a fertile place.
Oh, I know what’s causing it, what I’m interested in is hearing about any remedies others might be able to suggest that worked for them, since the discomfort is driving me to distraction.
C3, thanks for the suggestion; I’ll look for one of those pillows today, since I gotta go to Wally World anyway.
Pretty amazing, isn’t it? A whole passel of Doper babies!
Which reminds me, actually–mine really are Doperbabies, since their father, UncleBill (who, sadly, isn’t a member here any more) and I met through the boards, and I wonder if anyone’s made a count of how many babies the SDMB is responsible for. I know there have been a bunch of threads counting up the Doper couples, but I’m not sure if we’ve done a baby census.
Well, you are not supposed to use a heating pad, or take hot baths, and all the drugs that help are right out. My advice is to just treat yourself gently; if it hurts, try not to do it. The ligament in the pubic bone has been known to break and that opens you up to much more pain. I was put on bed rest two months before I was due, and rest does help. The bed rest was becaus I had premature labor twice, not because of the hip thing.
Has your belly split in a hernia? When mine did, the hip pain got worse, but my sides felt much better.
Ugh, I’ve been hit with a bunch of swelling etc in the past couple of days. My fingers are like sausages, and I won’t even tell you what my feet and ankles look like.
Had a check-up yesterday, the dr. says my blood pressure is a bit high but nothing scary - she recommended I take a day or two off work to stay off my feet and see if things settle down, but so far, no joy.
I’m at 30 weeks now and cannot imagine spending the next 10 (or so) weeks like this …!!!
Yeah, I’ve been doing that for a while; it helps with the top hip, but the one I’m laying on aches as well, and I’m wondering if there’s anything to be done about that. A non-pregnant friend suggested one of those “memory foam” mattress toppers, anybody tried one of those?
I swear by my generic Temp-Soma memory foam mattress topper, and I’m only 8 weeks pregnant! We’ve had one for about a year and a half. It is a godsend. We bought our queen-sized one at Sam’s Club for about $100. Also, each of us has one of the $25 pillows. Heaven!
