Time for a Pregnant / Brand New Parent Doper Update!?!

Geobab I am having that TERRIBLE hip pain as well. I’ve read that if you place a pillow under the hip you lay on it is supposed to help the pain. That has not worked with my pain, but it may work with your pain.

As for an update on me…I’m 32 weeks now. Baby is doing fine. I am having B-H contractions just about daily since last Thursday. Last night they started at 3am and finally stopped around 8 this morning. My doctor tells me not to worry about them, and that stress can actually make them worse. Some of them are painful, so that isn’t exactly fun.

I’m just trying to take it day by day at this point. I have 4 weeks left of work in the office still. That is getting very difficult. I drive an hour each way and I am running out of steam to say the least!

Hope everyone else is doing GREAT!

Soooooooooo…any new news from the expecting parents? Or have you all dropped the ‘expecting’ part and actually BECOME parents?

As for me, I’m just shy of 34 weeks. Braxton Hicks are still a daily adventure. He is just doing his final ‘baking’ so to speak.

Can’t wait for him to finally get out!

Thanks. I was thinking of bumping this to post about Friday’s ultrasound. I’m 13 weeks today and last week my symptoms seemed to go away almost completely. So I was in a constant state of worry until Friday.

Anyway, as soon as the Dr. put the wand on my belly, the baby started wiggling all over. His* little arms were flailing arournd and I felt bad for disturbing him. My husband asked the doctor, “Is it the thing that moving?”. I said, “No, that’s my pancreas that’s waving to us.”

We have 4 pictures, but one of them is so good that we can see the outline of his nose in profile. He’s on his back with his legs up in the air and had an arm up by his head.

It’s so cool!! My husband has been using his eBay addiction to look for cheap baby items. He’s adorable. We were looking at a book later that day that had a life-size picture of what the baby looks like right now and he started to cry. Awwwww.

Iris and I will be finding out the sex of the baby tomorrow morning. I’m not going to tell her I’m excited or anything like that.

She’s doing well, though she says the baby is moving a lot, she seems to think it’s doing flip turns off her belly already. Which is fine with me I could use an Olympic swimmer in the family.

How far along is she? Do either of you have a preference?

kittenlm is now 31 weeks, 3 days along, and doing pretty well. We had a pre-term labor scare a few weeks ago, which kept her in the hospital for a few days, but the docs managed to convince our little Turkey to stay in the oven for awhile longer. Because of that incident, a full 40 week pregnancy is unlikely. They’ll put it off as long as possible, but once we hit 35 weeks they’ll just let nature take its course.

But in general, she’s doing pretty good. The Turkey’s favorite hobbies seem to be using kittenln’s bladder as a trampoline and playing bongos on her pelvis. Other than that, the only complaint is near-constant heartburn.

The family had her baby shower on Saturday, and geez, this is going to be one spoiled rotten kid. I’m absolutely floored about how generous family and friends were. This’ll be the first grandchild on my side in nearly 20 years (as well as being the only one who wasn’t raised at least 1,000 miles away), and the first ever on her side of the family. I have no idea where we’re gonna put all this crap.

Couple days shy of 35 weeks now. Having B-H contractions all the time now, which is fun. Downstairs baby has a hobby of punching me in the bladder; I think after he’s born I’m going to be poking him and going, “Let’s see how YOU like it!” Little rascal.

I’m still having the hip pain–we did get me a foam mattress topper, not the memory foam because that was $$ but an egg-crate one, that’s helping some but didn’t alleviate it completely. It’s not keeping me awake quite so much; I’ve either gotten used to it or am just too darn tired, I can’t decide which.

I’m at that point in the pregnancy I’ve heard so much about; balanced on that knife edge between, “Noooooo, I’m/they’re not ready yet!” and, “Get them out of me RIGHT NOW.” It’s no more than a few more weeks no matter what, but boy, does time slow down when you get this huge. Yar.

Lauren Gracewas born Friday September 9th at 5:03 pm via c-section, weighing 8 lbs 10.5 oz and was 19.5 " long. The surgery and recovery have been much smoother than I anticipated. The hospital experience was lousy. Lauren was in the NICU for 3.5 days, then spent a day in our hospital room before we were discharged.

She’s exceptionally sleepy and staff kept saying she must have some illness because she wouldn’t wake up on their schedule to breastfeed despite the constant annoyance of cold cloths, chin nudging, heal rubbing, cheek stroking. They poked and proded her relentlessly and never did find any reason for her lethargy. They did succeed in scaring the bejesus out of me and I went days without meals or sleep because staff were pulling me in all directions.

She’s been having some difficulty gaining back to her birth weight and my stressing about it seems to have decreased my milk production which was previously good. Have had many visits with a lactation consultant who has been wonderful but it looks like I will be asking my doctor about medication since my breastfeeding technique and frequency are fine.

She is so agreeable, I question whether she is actually my child. She’s a wonderful baby and everytime I look at her my heart melts.

Congratulations, Cyros! That’s good that things went smoothly…good luck with the breastfeeding. Do everything you need to do, but if it eventually doesn’t work out, don’t feel guilty about it. It sounds like you’ll get it sorted out, though.

Nutty Bunny, we also had our first ultrasound on Friday. I was 13 weeks and 1 day at that point. Very cool. We had had a scare the previous Saturday…I started bleeding - a lot - for no reason. We went to the ER and they ran all sorts of tests and were able to get a fetal heartbeat (the doctor was VERY excited when he got that). They’re guessing that it was one of my blood vessels that burst (with all the extra blood in me, plus I’m taking aspirin as an anti-coagulant, so that makes me bleed more copiously). They said there was no fetal blood, the cervix stayed closed, and the heartbeat was strong. So, although it scared me to death, I’m feeling okay about everything now. It was VERY reassuring to have the ultrasound, though.

My “symptoms” have pretty much disappeared, too. Still a little more tired than normal, but no bone-deep fatigue. My second trimester with my son was fantastic - I felt fabulous and energetic and my skin was great. This time, I think I’ll feel pretty good, but the skin isn’t cooperating! I look like a fourteen-year-old with her period. Blech.

Cyros - what a beautiful baby! Glad the recovery went well. Hope the feeding issues get ironed out.

Hal - that’s quite a haul! My niece was a first grandchild on both sides and …well… yep - spoiled rotten!

Please ignore me.

I’m such an idiot.

Living with a pregnant lady, it made perfect sense to me.

Congratulations Cyros … what wonderful news … she’s gorgeous … good luck with the other issues and your c-section recovery!

I’m 32 weeks + 1 day right now. Going for an ultrasound tomorrow.

I was put on bedrest for a few days last week 'cos one doctor was worried about my b.p. and swelling … had a bunch of bloodwork done too. But as of Friday things looked much better, so I’m off bedrest (for now), as long as I behave and take it easy. I’m also off work on medical leave now until the baby comes, which of course is helping my stress level immensely!!!

So every time I am tempted to do “just one more thing” around the house, I have to remind myself to rest and take it easy, because I don’t want to get hospitalized OR to have my baby too soon.

I’ve been lucky so far with hips, etc, although my weight gain is not making me very happy. We’ll see what “joy” the next 8 weeks brings …

Thanks all for keeping this thread alive - I’m really enjoying it!

My pregnant LF had her 22 week scan last week (which actually put the wee ba inside at 23 weeks) and it was just incredible. Since the last scan the baby has grown so much, it just looked so real for want of a better word.

The way it was lying the first thing we saw was its heart, all four chambers beating away. My disposition to blood and innards seemed to disappear for the moment and I got to see its brain, spine, ribs, tongue (briefly) and I think one of her eyes. I say her as the radiographer couldn’t see between the baby’s legs, she was moving around an awful lot.

And everything was there, where it should be, spine covered all the way down, brain, heart all looking ok and all limbs accounted for

I go for my first ultrasound on 10/7. I’ll be 11 weeks and 3 days. We’re just looking at general growth and development at this one. We’re going to hear a heartbeat, too!

As Ed the Head mentioned, we were fortunate enough to find out the sex of our baby today. Looks like we’re going to have a girl! The baby was moving around like mad during the entire ultrasound, but it was amazing to see all the organs and limbs functioning properly. We’d be happy either way with a boy or girl, but I think someone might have been hoping a tiny bit for a girl. Ed was convinced all along it would be a girl so he was right (unless the doctor missed something… )

Oh, and I’m 20 weeks, 2 days and feeling great.

Cryos, what a cute little chub! She looks so healthy. I just want to pinch her cheeks, yes I do, yes I do! Oh sorry. I got a little carried away there. I’m obsessed with babies right now.

C3, I’m sorry you had a scare. I’ve been lucky that I haven’t bled yet. In fact, everything has been pretty quiet lately, except that I also have the face of a 14 year old. I had to buy the heavy duty zit cream.

Iris, I’m so glad that you were able to find out the sex! I’m so looking forward to when we find out. But I’m nervous that he/she won’t want to give us a peek when the time comes. I have to know the sex. I’m not one for surprises.

Me too! I thought Elza B was suggesting some helpful threads. Damn, now I want a doughnut sundae!

Cyros, congratulations on your beautiful girl! I’m sorry the hospital was so awful, but at least that’s over with.

I know with our boys, there was no doubt whatsoever, so your doc is most likely right.

Good to hear everyone else is still doing well! Has anyone heard from Shana? I’m guessing she hasn’t been around because she’s busy with her new baby, but it would be nice to hear for sure.

I saw the doc (actually the nurse-midwife) today and it looks like the boys are staying in for at least a little while yet, which is good even though it means discomfort for me. Oh, and she said the downstairs baby was still high–which means he hasn’t even BEGUN to stand on my bladder.

Thanks! Lauren was three weeks old yesterday and finally gained back to her birthweight (and a bit beyond). After I’ve had plugged ducts, we’ve both had thrush and my decreased production, it is quite a relief to finally see the scale show some progress

I hope we hear a quick update from Shana soon too. Can’t wait to hear details.

Geobabe, I must say I am thrilled to not have to run to the bathroom every five minutes anymore! Joy!
