Time for Blair to resign?

Is the Iraq war Tony Blair’s poll tax? Does anyone else think he should resign as Prime Minister before June 2006 and allow someone else to lead the Labour party? Does he really want to be forced out like Thatcher after overstaying his welcome? Why not do a Wilson resigns, Callaghan takes office and keep Labour in power instead of risking another Conservative takeover?

He can’t resign because that would be an admission that the Iraq war was wrong. And this is something they are not willing to admit at the moment. Whether he should resign is, of course, a different question.

Yeah, like that was so successful the last time round.

The time for Blair to resign came a long time ago!

You know, I really think he thinks that people like me, who are natural labour supporters and who voted him in the past two elections, don’t actually mean it when we say that we will never vote for him again.

The things that he has done, the lies and deceit, the shameless pooddling, etc, I actually would even vote Tory to get him out. Am luck enough to live in a Lab/Lib marginal so I won’t have to resort to that (and the days of showering that would result), but I would…

Thats my feeling too. I would vote lab next time, provided Blair isn’t in charge. I don’t think its unimaginable that he might resign.

I can see Kerry getting elected, and although I don’t think he’ll pull out of Iraq, he is likely question the reasons for the war in the first place. Blair might find himself the last person in the coalition, and that would make him very vunerable.

Its only a shame that the Liberals haven’t got a decent leader at the mo. They could have made a lot of mileage over this.

Yes, the time has come. I think the ‘Blair:Iraq as Thatcher:Poll tax’ analogy is about right. But I also agree that it won’t happen. Tony wants his three Gen Election wins, and then he’ll make way for another.

It’s funny, but before Iraq I thought that Blair was a slimey spinmonkey. After his performance in the run up to the war, and after seeing him in press conferences both by himself and especially side by side with Bush, I think that he’s great.
