New script. I used to go to For Eyes, for the two for $99.00 deal. It has been six or seven years since I bought (or shopped for) glasses and this deal is not mentioned on their website. For Eyes, as most companies, advertise % off sales instead of dollar amounts, which I have no reference for. Can anyone recommend eyeglass purveyors? Particularly in the southern New Hampshire area.
Not NH based by a long shot but have a look at zenni optical. You may be pleasantly surprised. My co-worker has used them repeatedly and the glasses are every bit as good as your local Lenscrafter…
Yup, Zenni. Dirt cheap. Normal prescription lenses with no options or additions can be as low as just the price of the frames, most of which are between $7 - $40. Quality is acceptable, for the price. It does take a couple of weeks to get them (it’s a China-based operation).
You can take them to LensCrafters or wherever and most such places will adjust them for free.
For Eyes is still the best deal among brick & mortar places around here (Chicago). Often by several hundred dollars. The ones by me frequently send out postcards with special deals, including the $99 one you mentioned, not just percentage off. They also post the deals in their windows. I just picked up a pair of $99 progressives from them.
+1 - I have used them and am happy.
If you just need glasses for reading an option is reading glasses–available at Walmart, Target, dollar stores, drug stores… for a few dollars.
They don’t refract for astigmatism, which affects the vision of about 1/3 or all young aduls and increases in incidence with age – possibly nearly everyone by the time they need 'reading glasses". Lenses that do not correct for astigmatism will cause considerable eyestrain.
It is also very difficult to buy pre-made glasses that are ideal for both eyes, as most people’s Rx is not the same in each eye.
No love posted yet for Costco Optical? If you have a Costco Membership, I highly recommend them.
Thanks all for the help. PastTense, they are for distance. I do by the cheaters for reading, though.
Another vote for Zenni. I’ve ordered from them for years. I just got my most expensive pair of glasses from them: $46. That was for dark yellow polarized lenses in a wayfairer style frame.
I love my Zennis. I ordered a spare travel pair, and I liked them so much, they became my every day specs and I keep my very expensive old ones for backup. (They were $250 twenty years ago, paid for by an insurance company when mine were busted in a car wreck.)
My wife orders them by the dozen, a frame for every outfit. In a year of two she loses or breaks them all and re-orders.
You have nothing to lose. Order a pair from Zenni for $20 ($40 for bifocals) and it you don’t like them, keep then as spares and go to the mall.
I’ve used Zenni in the past but quality-wise, their (plastic) frames last maybe a year before discoloring/fracturing and many styles have cheap-looking trim. Firmoo is my go-to now. They have BOGO for $39 and the frames are much more trendy (which might not be factor in your decision). The pair I’ve been wearing for 6 months now–in sweaty, tropical, third world conditions–still look brand new.
