Time for Trevor Hoffman to retire?

Trevor Hoffman is having a horrendous season. He has 5 blown saves in 10 chances, a 13.15 ERA, and has surrendered 6 home runs in 13 innings.

Yesterday, he came in to face the Reds in the bottom of the 9th inning with a 4-2 lead. He surrendered a single, tying home run, double, walk, and a walk-off single that would have been a double if needed.

Time to retire?

It would be an easier decision, I’m sure, if he were not sitting on 596 career saves…

As a Cards fan I’d like him to stick around, but preferably not blow any more saves against the Reds.

I think he’ll grind it out to 600, then retire.

Although the giant fork in his back is probably the cause of his pitching woes.

My Fantasy Team says “yes.”

I picked up Hoffman in the hope that i could get some much-needed saves for my team, but so far he’s actually had my Saves total going backwards.

It’s surprising just how precipitously he’s declined, since he was pretty darned good last year.

As a Brewers fan, it’s frustrating. And, it’s sad to see a guy who was so good, for so long, finally run into Father Time.

Unless he’s got an undisclosed or undiagnosed injury causing him to have lost something off his pitches, I do think it’s probably time.
