Thanks to the magic of parliamentary procedure, time has stopped in the House of Commons.
The Conservative Government has introduced back-to-work legislation for the striking postal workers. The NDP Opposition has responded with a filibuster: Canada Post debate heads into weekend.
However, Thursday was the last sitting day for this session. They will continue sitting until the day’s work is done. That means that time has stopped, and the debate continues, night and day. Regardless of the Sun and the Moon, it’s still Thursday, June 23rd. The Prime Minister slept on the couch in his office last night, after pulling a midnight shift, in case there was a vote and he was needed.
Physics? piffle! Parliamentary procedure can bend space and time! Top that, Hawking!
Stupid hill for the NDP to die on. NDP fighting for the right of Canada Post not to deliver mail so Canadians don’t get mail. Most Canadians support the bill.
I know one of the NDP’s raison d’être is supporting all unions, but postal workers have it better than the average person in this country and what are they striking for ?
They want 8 weeks holidays, 11.5 wage increase and to be able to bank their sick days. Bunch of weasels.
Harper is letting this go on, thinking the longer they push this the more stupid the NDP looks.
Thursday has finally ended with the passage of the bill. I agree the NDP will gain nothing from their filibuster. One problem is that mail is a sunset business and both sides know it. At this point, what I get in the mail are: magazines (I am oversubscribed), charitable solicitations, junk, and an occasional bill (most are coming by email and AMEX, for example, posts bills only at their web site.
