So we had them for fifty years to protect everyone when the Russians were going to shoot at us, and now that we can shoot them at someone you are going to take them away?
Besides, you’ve got to be a really, really big hole to put them in. ![]()

Emigrants from the CSA will be their best people, a welcome addition. The ones who choose to stay will be the ones nobody but demagogues would want, so .. good match!
Germany used to have several of those. It seemed to work for them…
I’d love to see a split. For too long there has been a progressive America and a backward America and I’m getting tired of our southern half holding us back.
I should priobably point out that it doesn’t work like that today. In fact, it’s going the opposite way. The young, the bright, the ambitious aren’t flocking to Cali, Chi-town, and N’yawk despite the many advantages of those areas as cultual centers.
Hey, we tried to leave once! ![]()
No; the white male aristocracy tried to leave. They didn’t ask their slaves what they wanted. For that matter, women didn’t have the vote either.
“Liberal wet dream”? I’ve heard it far more often from the Right. It’s the Right that idolizes the Confederacy and fantasizes about defeating the Federal government in an armed rebellion.
Nitpick. Southern women, at least the white ones, were if anything, more pro-war then their menfolk.
Mark Twain commented that none of the men in his town were going to refuse to fight because the women would shut them off(though he was a bit more delicate).
During the 1960s, one of the more popular chants was “Girls say yes to guys who say no” but that certainly wasn’t true in the 1860s.
Did women have the vote in the North?
Did Maryland and Delaware seek advice of their slaves? ![]()
People aren’t really that divided along State lines. In much of the South 40-45% or more vote Dem in elections, and much of the South has been on the receiving end of 30+ years of Northern migration. These States will be dissimilar to their historical selves in a generation or so, so these outdated ideas of yours are basically ignorant and don’t reflect reality. If States like Virginia and North Carolina are backward, then so are pretty much all the other States, and aside from a few problem child states like Mississippi/Alabam/Louisiana what I say is true of most of the southern states, especially VA / NC / GA / FL.

Here, for instance. “Polarization is real and is asymmetrical.” This isn’t Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. This is Congress.
