Fuck 'em both.
Stop swinging your dicks at each other and make a fucking deal already.
Which top exec is going to come over to my house and explain to my son why he can’t watch Noggin anymore?
Yeah, that’s what I thought.

You will have, at most, one day without Noggin.
These things are always hammered out before one side cuts off their own dick over it.
I was planning on switching to U-verse anyway, but we’re still months away from ATT installing it in our neighborhood.
I’ve put up with no NFL network, only half of the Orlando Magic games, service outages, and busy signals way too long. Viacom is asking for only about a penny per channel, per month. I don’t care if they pull the plug for ten seconds; I’m done with Brighthouse.
At least Viacom was kind enough to invite me to watch their programming on Hulu.
I’m sure friedo is right. Still, if I don’t get my Daily Show and Colbert fix on Monday, heads are gonna motherfuckin’ roll.
I’m giving them a week to put Noggin back on, then I’m switching everything (phone, cable, internet) to AT&T. I’ve been thinking about doing it anyway, but I didn’t want to change my email address. I’m not going to endure more than a week of Yo Gabba Gabba withdrawals from my kids, though. What the hell is TWC thinking, in markets with other cable providers?
Why the hell can’t these cable companies come through with the a la carte plan that’s been talked about for years? I wouldn’t mind paying MORE for the networks I watch if it means I don’t have to pay a penny for the networks I DON’T.
I predict a massive suicide at 12:01am if Comedy Central gets taken off the air. I’ve known people whose lives would be totally meaningless if they didn’t have the bright comfort of some stupid 80s censored-for-cable movie warming their souls at 2am…
Well maybe not Monday, but they do stream their full shows on their websites. But, would Comedy Central post their episodes if they couldn’t broadcast through TW?
I got a can a whupass ready to open.
They don’t get this worked out, screw it. I’m getting a dish!
Consumers don’t want these plans. Just ask the cable companies
I don’t know about DirecTv, but Dish Network has had similar issues in the past.
90% of the tv-watching in our house is on Nick or one of the MTV channels – the kids watch tv WAY more than my husband and I.
This goes on, I’ll have to bite the bullet and switch to Direct TV and get an ugly-ass dish. God damn it. TWC gives us a ton of HD channels, which are nice on the rare occasions husband or I gets the TV, but without Nick or MTV, there is going to be MASSIVE outcry here.
News outlets are now reporting Time Warner and Viacom have reached a deal. The most amusing quote regarding the whole thing was given by a Time Warner rep who had a flippant response to an ad Viacom put out reading “Why is Dora crying?”: “Dora’s crying because she’s going to fly coach instead of business class.” (The rate increases Viacom demanded equal more than $30 million.)
I didn’t think it would be that long- the last Time Warner/Viacom dispute was resolved rather quickly too, I recall. (As Jon Stewart joked, people get angry when they don’t get their SpongeBob). I’m sure there’ll be another rate dispute between the two in the future- and that it will be resolved just as quickly.
Yesterday Viacom had a full-page ad in the paper asking people to call Time-Warner to complain. Today there was a similar ad, but it included the toll-free numbers you could use to sign up for DirectTv, verizon, and AT&T, mentioning that all of them had “special offers”.
Wow, they’re dicks, aren’t they? That said, I gave AT&T a call yesterday just to see what they had on offer. I could bundle my phone, internet, and cable for $50 less per month, plus $100 cash back and a $150 rebate. The downside is that I’d have to sign a 24 month contract. I need to verify with them that I can get a couple features I want, but we’ll probably switch next week. I’m sick of TWC increasing their prices every couple months.
I am looking to try to cut down on my expenses (I just reduced the package for my landline phone and eliminated a bunch of services I never use anyway) and on the advise of a friend went to the DirectTV website to check out their deals. Took me at least twenty minutes to find anything that actually gave rates, and another ten to find out what was included in their DVR service. It was the most buyer-unfriendly site I’ve ever seen. I suspect it’s because they’d rather you called them to get any info, so you could get the hardsell from their sales staff.
The dispute is settled. Dotdash Meredith - America's Largest Digital & Print Publisher
The worst part was when TV Land was running a crawl across the bottom of the screen…and I’m on COMCAST which wasn’t affected by the dispute at all. I sympathize with all the T-W and Brighthouse subscribers who were affected by this, and suppose I should be glad my cable company wasn’t part of this, but WTF? What good does running an advert on the screens of people who aren’t on the affected systems do?
$30mil per year, divided by 13 million subscribers = about $2.31 per subscriber, per year.
So who wants to bet our rates go up in excess of that per month!
They don’t usually have separate feeds for each cable system; there’s limited satellite transponder space for cable broadcasts. Many cable channels have an east and west coast feed; a lot have only one feed. So if they want to put out a message complaining about a cable carrier, it’s going to go everywhere or at least to one side of the country.
It’s unlikely that the cable company would sell them local ad space so they could be badmouthed.
Viacom’s demands were 23 cents more per customer, or over $35 million.
