Someone sent me this word quiz. I have answered enough to be a “genius” but wasted so much time on it I must be an idiot.
Who can get them all first? (I still need help on 16, 19, 28, 30, 31.)
You have to work out what the letters mean. See No 0 as an example.
According to MENSA, if you get 19 + of these, you are a "genius".
Only 2 MENSA members achieved full marks. See how well you do.
Scoring:1 to 5 is Average, 6 - 11 Somewhat Intelligent, 12 to 18 Intelligent, 19 + Genius

16 could be 100 Cents in a Rand (depending on where the quiz came from, but see #30)
19 is 13 = Unlucky For Some
28 is 23 Pairs of Chromosomes in the Human Body
30 is 9 Provinces in South Africa
31 is 6 Balls to an Over in Cricket (again this would make sense if the quiz was written by a South African)
I also note that wherever the quiz comes from, a set of cards is called a “pack”, rather than a “deck”. I’ll ask my South African officemate, when next I see him.
I doubt, by the way, that this is actually a MENSA quiz. Tests like this tend to be more a measure of whether you’ve seen that one before, than of intelligence.
16 100 C in a R : 100 Cookies in a Roll (big roll, I guess)
19 13=UFS : 13 Unlucky Flamenco Singers
28 23 P of C in the H B : 23 Princes of Chaos in the Hell Bestiary
30 9 P in S A : 9 Paraguayans in South America
31 6 B to an O in C : 6 Boxes to an Oxcart in Connecticut
Are you saying that you got 28 of these all by your lonesome, without referring to online sources? Wow. You must be smart.
However, if you did get some of those answers from other online sources (I notice that a Google search on 100 C in a R got 111 hits; 13=UFS got 309 hits; 23 P of C in the H B got 220; 9 P in S A got 124; and 6 B to an O in C got 137), I have to assume you didn’t actually work very hard at figuring out the answers to those last five…
I’ve taken this quiz before. I got 26 out of 33 of them. Most of the ones you listed gave me trouble, too.
#16 was very hard for me. In fact, four of us at work couldn’t figure it out before finally looking it up. everton is correct on that one.
I also had trouble with #19, which was one of the 7 that I missed. Again, points to everton for getting it right.
#28 was one that I got right away when I took the quiz. I don’t know of too many instances in which 23 is a significant number (“23 skidoo” is the only other such occurrence).
#30 gave me trouble, too. Apparently this quiz was developed in South Africa because of its reference to the rand in #19.
#31 was also a stumper for me. Again, since it apparently originated in South Africa I would have never gotten this one.
I guessed #30 correctly because I’ve got friends in South Africa and did a little homework before visiting them, and after that #16 and #31 seemed like reasonable guesses. I would have got #19 anyhow and I’ve seen #28 before. I’ve taken IQ tests in the past and done OK, but I think “genius” is a little presumptuous for a test like that one.
