I live in an apartment, and last weekend purchased a washer and dryer at a very large furniture/appliance store. The washer/dryer will be delivered on Thursday when I am home from work.
The delivery charge itself is $44.00 and for the movers to haul out the existing washer and dryer will cost an additional $15.00…
What’s the consensus on tipping the dudes who show up to do the moving?
I think this is a no-tipping situation. And you’re getting robbed, I never heard of an appliance store that didn’t haul away your old appliances for free when delivering new ones.
I vote for tipping only if your delivery is especially hard, ie three flights of stairs, or if you got exceptional service, like they worked late to get it to you same-day, which doesn’t sound like the situation.
Yes, you should definitely tip. Especially now around the holiday season.
I dated a delivery guy for years, and many of my friends worked with him. They received tips for almost every job they did. If there are no stairs involved and it’s an easy delivery, I’d personally tip about $5 or $6 each. Maybe $10 each if there are stairs, difficult angles to maneuver, etc.
