Titanic II?

When the movie Titanic came out in December 1997 and huge hype started in the begining of 1998, I heard rumors that they were building a exact replica of the RMS Titanic for passenger use and it would be scheduled for her maiden voyage in the early 2000s, like 2002. Is this true, or was it just a rumor? I mean, while we’re at it, why not just re-build the Hindenburg for crying out loud?!

The most I have heard is that some company is going to build a Titanic shaped hotel in the San Francisco Bay.

I also heard that, but I heard it was a hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

There are definitely plans to build a theme restaurant called Titanic II at Fishermans’ Wharf in SF, but at the moment they are simply plans.

We can only hope that the plans will be canceled; though this would seem to be a fairly bright hope in light of the recent election. Of two competing ballot measures on city development, the one backed by developers & da mayor went to defeat, while the one which limited growth succeeded.

I seem to have misplaced the article but Carnival or some of ther cruise line is indeed making a ship to rival the size of the titanic. (not a repolica but a bigger ship).

I believe most cruise ships later on were at least SOMEWHAT bigger.
Actually, it would be pretty stupid, not to mention creepy to build ANOTHER Titanic…

Oh, thank God. When I read the title to the thread, I thought that they were making a sequal to “Titanic”. That would be too much for me to take.

“Titanic II: The ship has sunk, but the adventure continues”

Two hours of wreckage sinking to the bottom…

Remember that the Titanic arrived in Ghostbusters II, that would probably be where they start.

Hee hee. One of our local amusement centers (mini-golf, pinball, go-carts, etc.) has a giant inflatable Titanic, tipped on end so it appears to be sinking - it’s a SLIDE!

“Hey kids! Let’s pretend we’re plunging to our deaths! Yippee!”

I believe that this is what you are referring to. Here are some quotes from the site.

Note that the Queen Mary II referred to is a 150 000 ton cruise ship being build for Cunard.

One wonders how realistic (=tacky) this Titanic II will be.

Will the bar will serve drinks call icebergs with, instead of umbrellas, little plastic ships that float with bow submerged and stern in the air?

And will the highlight of the day be the Lifeboat Drill with insufficient number of places in the boats? And will those too slow to get in a boat will be entertained by the daily Deckchair Rearrangement accompanied, of course, by the band playing Nearer My God to Thee?

Or just Leo’s corpse. On second thought, that might actually be pretty entertaining.
