Weirddave, your shit is tired. Every thread about the Steelers features a flaming post of yours with some weak ass rant and pathetic lambasting of all Steelers fans. The only one here with a shitty attitude is you. There are teams that I hate, but it is not my avocation to blow my wad about it at every opportunity. Truth be told, I can’t get up the same level of animosity about the Ravens because they just suck. Roughly one season of true competitveness, and they’re done. Go cry me a river, pansy.
As to the call, it was bullshit. Of course, the Steelers secondary sucked all year, and sucked again on Saturday. And there is no denying that Washington fucked everything up just a few plays before. But when you have a guy running parallel to the line of scrimmage, stumbling, head turned away from the kicker, and the kicker walks into his path taking a few steps after his follow through - tell me, can you say that flagging this is the spirit of the law?
Those of you so keen on calling this by the book, please tell me, what does the book say in defining the penalty? I can’t find it online. I do find some references that say running into the kicker occurs when someone runs into the kicker “while he is in a kicking position.” If this holds for the actual NFL definition, I would say that the refs fucked up both the spirit and the letter of the rule.
So, no denying that the Steelers put themselves in the position they did. How the fuck does this equate to the Titans getting as many cracks at it as they need?
On another note, which pissed me off even more than the running into the kicker call, what the fuck was up with the non-holding calls against the Titans all day long. It wasn’t that the refs were letting everyone play in terms of holding, because they chose to call the Steelers on it. If there wasn’t some preferential treatment being given to the Titans, how the fuck did every official miss the guys knee hitting the ground, when it was clear to the rest of the whole country. The fact that Cowher had to have to fight to get that one reviewed is shameful.
All I have to say is that if we get our secondary figured out and retain our offense, I like our chances next year. Given that we were 9-0 against the division this year, I look forward to another January of pissing and moaning from Weirddave in 2004.
