That’s really too bad that this is mild. I think there’s pleanty to debate about without resorting to personal attacks just because of the team someone supports.
Yes, but that takes all the fun out of it.
You know what? You’re right. I apologise for my harsh comments last post, it was fallout on you because I’m pissed at Steelerphan, and that’s wrong. I apologise to you for snapping at you. Steelerphan, you should be ashamed of yourself. I always viewed you as a good fan of your team, a fan of the NFL in general, and a person with whom some enjoyable AFC North smack could be talked in fun. Hell, if you’d have told me you were gonna be in town on the week we play the Steelers, I prolly would have invited you to the game. Your insistance on flinging personal insults in response to good natured NFL smack has sullied what should have been an enjoyable thread. You laid claim to your place, and you can have it, along with all of the other Stiller “fans” who think the NFL is about getting drunk and starting fights. I’m gonna miss the fun we used to have during the season with the back and forth, but you’ve finally revealed your true colors, and I’m not going to waste my time when your idea of being a good fan is personal insults. Grow the fuck up.
Thanks for the apology. I think I probably overreacted to your colorful comments earlier in the thread. I still think that you were a little hard on fans reacting to a hard loss, but I get the impression that maybe that’s just how I’m looking at it.
I’m a newbie. I still have trouble interpetting the difference between friendly smack and jerkish smack.
Weirddave, every time you open your mouth, you reveal how much of a pansy you really are. “Shame on Steelerphan”? “Good natured smack”? Your first note on the topic (in the thread about CBS scheduling) stated that all Steeler fans are thugs and drunks who somehow are both threatening and easily beaten up. You vomited out the “Bill Coward” gem in the thread that suggests that Cowher was crying. Your opening salvo in this thread called my city “Shitsburgh.” And now you’re pouting, crying shame on Steelerphan, and lamenting how he sullied your delightful little repartee.
Try to be a man. If you come out swinging, take your shots and then go and sit down. Pansy.
By the way, did you post about the Ravens at the snopes message board prior to last season? If not, I’ve had the wonderful experience of dealing with two moron Ravens fans running around on message boards showing their lack of football knowledge.
What now? Am I to ban myself from the SDMB because you want to pick on Steeler fans? I really hope they did something bad enough to warrant this. My only personal insult was “Fuck you.” You accused me of whining, even though I did not post anything whiny about the outcome of the game. I objected to your all-out attack on Steeler fans, being one myself.
You can blame me for everything you hate about the Steelers and their fans, OK? It’s all my fault. I am secretly in charge of the entire organization and all the fans, and everyone gets approval through me before acting. It’s my fault that the Steelers beat the Ravens, because my mental emissions are in tune with all the players, and they do my bidding.
I never realized I had such power.
I don’t get drunk, though. I am a diabetic. I don’t get in fights, either. Most people avoid me- maybe my size, or my ugliness, I don’t know which.
If you think you’ve been insulted, though, I haven’t done a good job. let me work on it a while- I’m not a good off-the-top-of-the-head ranter- and I’ll find something to work with.
I’ll take back the “perennial also-rans” comment though- there’s nothing perennial about the Ravens, they are just an expansion team, from that hole in the earth between Philly and DC.
I’m also not ashamed because you attacked others in this thread- it shows your true colors, just as I said before. I see nothing good-natured in your invective, just sour grapes for your team’s sorry play and vengeance toward the Steelers. You went too far this time- I just responded in kind.
I go with the kicker getting touched. I saw it on the news. I did read (though did not see) that a successful kick was called back because Pittsburgh called a time out. WTF? Aren’t you supposed to do that BEFORE the play starts. There apparantely was some controversy about that. I know, they try to do it just before the snap to distract the kicker, but from what I read the refs actually fucked that one up.
What the hell was the Steelers head coach whining about. Something about trying to call another time out. He was ranting about not caring if he gets punished for his temper tantrum.
I hope he does get punished. Maybe keep him out of a couple of games next year.
Now on to the real part of my post. If you get that worked up about a game that you don’t even play. That you watch from the luxury of your couch, drinking your beer and eating your cheese balls…GET A FUCKING LIFE.
It kinda upset me when I heard Cower whine about it today. Look, asshole, you didn’t lose because the refs didn’t see the timeout. You lost because you didn’t outscore the other team in regulation. Maybe you should take a little bit responsibility instead of blaming it on a perfectly legitimate call (he did run into the runner) or because you didn’t start calling timeout until after the ball was snapped. How many times have you lost in the playoffs now? It seems like it’s a yearly tradition so *take some fucking responsibility coach *.
There, I feel better now.
Cowher ALWAYS flips out. He’s got a huge temper.
Did Chuck Noll ever act like that?
First off, Washington had no choice but to touch the kicker, I believe he tripped over a Titan beforehand if memory serves. Second, Weirddave is not a pansy, nor has his vitrol at Pittsburgh fans in my opinion ever affected him at the Ravens v. Pittsburgh game I went to with him last season. I’ve seen him talk football at the games on more than one occasion, and not once has he ever been a jerk to fans of the opposition, even when they themselves get out of hand. Never in my life have I seen more people thrown out of a stadium then when Pittsburgh is in town and I can guarantee you that the overwhelming majority of those tossed out on their drunken tookuses were Steelers fans.
That said, the Titans may have won, but it was a well played game by both teams, fun as hell to watch. And dearest weirdone, please take me to the Pitt game next year… I love to watch the fights. And thanks for all the fun this season, how I love that Ginger doesn’t like sports … thank you Ginger from the bottom of this Ravens fan’s heart.
College football’s overtime is a joke. It’s not football. You take away field position and punting to artificially create scoring situations. It would be like using a shootout to break ties in hockey or a home-run derby in baseball games. It’s part of the game, but not the whole game.
I think that instead the NFL should make overtime be “win by 6”. That way, you wouldn’t have that whole “team gets inside the 30, runs up the gut and tries chip shot field goal on 3rd down” crap anymore. A team that would do that should have to make a defensive stop, get the ball back, and drive down again to win. Or, a team should just march all the way down for six. I wouldn’t mind the team that gets the ball first winning the game as long as they scored a touchdown.
Also: for god’s sake, NFL, get rid of ties. It’s a joke that an NFL game can still end in a tie. It’s fine for hockey because those guys play three games a week, and games go to OT all the time. But for how rare OT is in football, and for how much each game means, please send home a winner and loser every time.
Don’t you remember him poking Jerry Glanville in the chest before a game started, Guinastasia? That said, the difference in their emotional displays is night and day. Chuck Noll never did kiss Terry Bradshaw. Not once.
Just for the folks who keep missing it:
Read my post above discussing our defense. Now, is it okay to assert both: a) We failed to stop the Titans (and most offenses) like we generally do in other seasons, and b) the call was bullshit?
Secondly, please, for the love of Bill people, stop citing the name of the penalty as the complete explanation of the penalty. It is called “running into the kicker.” Only poogas21 has provided any definition of the rule, and it fails to support the call.
So: bullshit defense, bullshit call.
As someone who just wanted to see a good game and didn’t give a rodent’s buttock about who won, I thought the call was just because;
- he did hit him,
- he wasn’t blocked into him,
- it’s his own damn fault if he tripped over another player.
I’d have buried Washington in pink slips if I was Cowher instead of whining like a snot nosed kid. Jeez man, grow the hell up.
This Year’s Model said: “It was pretty low class of the Titan fans to boo the kid that won the Punt, Pass & Kick contest just because he came from Pittsburgh.”
Heh, that was hilarious! It was good natured booing to raz the kid because he was the only contestant from Pennsylvania and he took it as such and started laughing. They weren’t throwing bottles at him.
Seriously, don’t try and tell me a kid from Tennessee would fare any better in the Pittsburgh or Philadelphia stadiums.
Agreed about booing the kid. I booed the kid from the comfort of my own home, but wish I coulda been there to give him a friendly slug in the arm and an “attaboy” afterwards. I was glad to see the kid smiling like he got the joke. I seriously doubt any of the fans there had any disdain for the kid just because he had the misfortune of being from Pittsburgh.
Unfortunately, I was only two years old when the Steelers last won the Super Bowl, and I don’t remember Noll, because when I was growing up I didn’t like to watch sports.
Sorry, just because he was able to take it in good nature doesn’t make it right. My take is: booing an adult football player because he plays for Pittsburgh = OK; booing a 13 year old in his moment of glory because he comes from Pittsburgh != OK. YMMV, and obviously does. No big deal, I just thought it was low class.
Hey, I’m a Steelers fan, I thought the call should have been a no-call, but don’t think it would have made a difference. It was only second down, afterall. No way Nedney was going to miss again. I was pissed about a lot of other things more than that call that, to me, didn’t make any real difference to the outcome.
I was pissed at Fuamatu Ma’afala for that lousy block in the back during Randle El’s punt return that cost the Steelers a touchdown. The replay I saw showed that block not being in a position to have helped spring Randle El. That pissed me off.
I was pissed that the Steelers secondary was so soft the whole game. Those little 8-10 yard out routes were just there all day long for McNair.
I was pissed that the NFL still allows a sudden death overtime in the playoffs. As soon as it got to overtime I told my buddy that the Steelers had to win the toss to have a shot. I don’t think any team’s season should come down to sudden death like that.
All that said this game was fun as hell to watch. I look forward to cheering against the Titans next week and hoping for a healthier secondary next year. I hate the Titans, but I don’t hate Titans fans. I hate the Ravens, but I don’t hate Ravens fans. And last time I checked all that really matters is “scoreboard.” The Steelers have scoreboard on the Ravens, but the Titans get to cry scoreboard at us for now.
I have to say, Realhoops, that you have spoken my thoughts about it as well. I’m not pissed about the call, nor am I apologizing for what other fans and team players are saying about it.
Rather, I am pissed at people who blindly attack anyone who is a fan of the team. Regardless of past agreements. And then to have someone else come in and say that all Steeler fans are thugs and drunks, and that they cause fights wherever they go.
There are many fans around my area who are not Steelers fans, and they make trouble for Steeler fans just because they can. I think there are Steeler fans in Baltimore who cause trouble, but I can’t prove it. I just don’t see someone traveling six hours one way to watch a game to ruin it by picking fights. At least not the fans I know.
Now I know never to go to Baltimore to watch a game, because I would have to watch for someone looking for revenge against Steelers fans. I’ll just camp at home with the Net and my multiple TVs and my Terrible Towel and eat too much and cheer when they win, bum out briefly when they lose, and ignore the biased bullshit pouring out of the mouths of network announcers.
And, since I’m from Pennsylvania, GO EAGLES!
