Title must be at least 10 characters, blast it!

I recall from reading 60s-80s Marvel comics that “blast” was used as a substitute curse word frequently, as in “He got away, blast it!”

Of course, I’ve heard many curse word substitutions such as “fudge,” “goshdarn it,” and “sugar.” I can’t say I’ve ever heard anybody irl use “blast.”

I’m wondering, since Marvel is mainly based in NYC, is this a NYC thing? Do New Yawkers say “blast” instead of “damn” in the presence of vulnerable ears? If so, are there other regional curse word substitutions?

I seem to recall on Star Trek the original series that Doctor McCoy used to say things like “Blast it Jim, I’m a Doctor not brick layer!”.

Wiktionary suggests the interjection form is “chiefly British”.
