Go to your local A&E out of hours. Seriously, 6 months is way too long to put up with that. Even if it weren’t causing/contributing to any health problems like anaemia, the inconvenience and discomfort is too much to expect anyone to put up with. I would imagine the doctors at the hospital will ask if you’ve seen your GP about it, so say yes, but add that the flow has just got heavier/more painful and you’re getting very worried, so you thought you should come in.
Who says we don’t want to do that?
Robin, who wishes she could rip her uterus out and mail it back to her father.
Sorry, I read that all as one side-effect.
“Nausea, blurred vision, occasional break through bleeding from from your ass …”
I spotted continuously for about 4 months using Implanon before I finally gave up and had the doc rip it out again and went back on the pill.
I recently discovered NuvaRing and couldn’t be happier.
I hereby nominate this for the best sound effect ever in print media.
My mother actually went through something like this. Her OB/GYN diagnosed her with abnormal uterine bleeding and recommended a hysterectomy (she was losing enough blood to significantly affect her quality of life). We called the surgery “the day she broke the mold.”
To this day we still talk about the weird things she mumbled to us during her post-surgery morphine-induced haze.
A few months straight when I went on the Pill. It was one of the many, many reasons I got off it. A few people told me the symptoms would stop in about three months but, unfortunately, I could not put my life on pause 'til then. Also one of the reasons I’d probably never try Depo or anything else I couldn’t halt on my own in a day.
I do know a friend’s mom who had her period for about a year while going through menopause. good times.
Wow!
I am like Anaamika, I can tell the hour if you wanted me to and I know exactly how long it will last. Any deviation and there is something “off.”
I haven’t used chemical birth control in a few years, but when I was on Depo, my periods stopped about a month after the shot and I didn’t get one again until I was off it for about a year. My gyn said all that was normal…
That’s really gonna make pbbth sad.
If your uterus has fallen out, I think I know why you’re bleeding so much…
Um yea, I had the the Depo shot as well some years back. IF I remember correctly you get one every three months? I bleed all six months and almost 4 after I opted out of the third one. Then I didn’t have a period for an entire year. Not to mention my hair fell out, I gained 32 pounds and was a nut case.
Worst.Idea.Ever.
How can bleeding that much or not at all possibly be healthy?
woobsquish? woobsquish… yea that is the new greatest sound effect of the century.
Wow, I refused to take any more hormonal BC after two weeks of period. I’d be throwing a shitfit if I had my period for six months.
My wife was just put on a ten day cycle of medroxyprogesterone for her several month long period. This finally got it to stop (though she missed a pill by a matter of hours and it started back up. They told her this would stop it, then she’ll have a REALLY heavy period and they I think they plan to do some sort of an ultrasound to see if there’s something going on.
She’s not on any BC right now, because if when she is on it, her period is still kind of all over the place. But it’s always been that way.
Let me just say that I kind of love that you know so much about your wife’s cycle.
True masters of a discipline know when they encounter another master.
I just read the rest of this serious thread laughing continuously because of that mental image.
Me, too.
Depo is the Devil’s birth control. Hiss, boo, woobsquish.
Six months here as well. Bled the first 3 months non-stop. Told the PP nurse about that and she said it was pretty common and the next shot ought to clear that up. Wrong. Bled another 3 months. Went back to PP and refused the third shot.
My IUD has been very kind to me.
Me? Longest period, maybe 6 days.
Geez, shocking to me that such prolonged bleeding is considered a “normal” side effect of DEPO. That is utter BS, because it’s NOT “normal” by any sane defintion of the word.
I only used hormonal BC for about 9 mths when I was 19 or so. (the pill). I hated it; screwed up my cycle (spotty, irregular periods), I gained 15 lbs immediately and didn’t lose them 'till I stopped the pill, and it turned me into some hyper-emotional bitch woman at random.
Used FAM (fertility awareness method) with condoms as indicated ever since. I just can’t see dosing myself with hormones (and dealing with the possible side effects, both immediate and long term) to deal with 5 days max a mth of potential impregnation. JMO.
I would definately seek another opinion and other options for ending this insanity. Even if it weren’t causing health issues like anemia, holy crap, who wants to bleed heavily for 6 MONTHS?! (and I can’t imagine even WANTING to have sex under those conditions anyway…WTH would I need the BC for?)
That would be a break through. An occasion, even.
