Omfg. My uterus won’t stop bleeding. I’ve been going for over a week now and it’s just like a constant floodgate of blood. I’ve been on Depo for 9 months and I had one short period while on it. I decided to stop because of weight gain and like, almost on cue, this one starts. I’m not even past my due date for the next shot! But it’s horrible. I’m going through like 6-8 pads a day and it’s getting everywhere. I’ve already bled through two pairs of pants today. I don’t know what to do. I start my new job next week and I have no idea if this will even be over with by then. All the blood loss is making me tired and lethargic and I’m getting a lot of headaches on top of it all. Someone please tell me this will end soon This is awful and I haven’t even dealt with the process of the depo wearing off yet!
Good lord, if you’re bleeding through multiple pairs of pants and it’s going on for more than a week, I’d say you’re more than justified in going to the doctor! I bet they could set you up with some birth control pills or something to stem the tide, and also set up a plan to transition off the Depo and keep control of this ridiculousness.
Mine isn’t as bad, but I’ve developed some weirdness with my perimenopause where my uterus ejects 7 days’ worth of blood in 3.5 days. So I get cramps like a miscarriage, changing a super plus tampon every few hours, and clots to beat the band, then . . . nothing. It’s a little disconcerting, though I suppose if it has to be violent, at least it’s short.
I also have something, far, far, more TMI I could share, if it makes you feel any better!
Been there, suffered that. In my case I think the Depo contributed to mutant fibroids, so get thee to ultrasoundland right away in case you have some uterine interlopers that need to be evicted. If you do don’t worry, easy breezy procedure and you’ll be back to not having to take spare clothes with you everywhere.
One female doper was thinking about evicting her uterus with crochet hooks, but finally opted to get a surgeon to do it. But yeah, see a doctor. That ain’t right.
I had an odd period that went on for 2 weeks earlier this year (though not heavy - it was actually fairly light much (but not all) of the time). That was enough to get me in to my doctor to discuss it after not going for the girly bits for ~6 years. Did all the checks, and everything was fine - and the next period was normal, though a bit heavier than typical - and mentally I feel a lot better knowing things are ok.
Going by the thread title, I thought this was going to be about the district of Berlin called Wedding: a working-class area, and a left-wing stronghold in the 1920s and 30s – gave the Nazis considerable grief. When disabused of that mistake; being male, I quickly skipped over the posted material, opening no spoilers…
You have my sympathies. In May, I finally wrapped up a three-month cycle. It took two doctor’s appointments and three kinds of birth control pills before the the tide ebbed.
I can’t go to the doctor now cause I no longer have insurance But I guess I could make an appointment at PP. They’re the ones who got me into this mess…in the literal and figurative sense of the word. But they’re always so packed I don’t think I can get into them before my work starts
More TMI.
I am passing insane amounts of clots. Like, I’ve never done so many in my life. They’re everywhere and not at all tiny. Omg it’s like I’m birthing a small army of clot monsters.
Some of the clots were the size of the palm of my hand. It was awful. But if it makes you feel better, after the bleeding finally stopped, an ultrasound revealed that there were no lasating problems in my case, even taking into account the giant mutant clots.
There is a pill that they can give you to stop the bleeding - it’s called Megestrol. I have had to go to the doc and get this due to dysfunctional bleeding. It works almost immediately. I was told that if you are bleeding through a pad in 45 minutes, you need to go to the doc. My problem was not due to depo, I’m just getting old!
Ladies, this thread reminds me of how little I miss my uterus.
I, too, suggest a GYN visit, even though you believe you know the cause of your symptoms. You could also quickly become anemic, which is a whole 'nother kind of misery.
At the very least, call the doctor who gave you the shot and tell them you’re having this reaction. They might be willing to call in a prescription for you or otherwise work things out for you so you don’t have to be on the hook for the full cost of a visit.
If a guy has made it this far into the thread, then they’re obviously interested in the conversation. The spoiler boxes are silly and needlessly inconvenient. IMHO.
A saturday a few months ago my wife arrived home earlier than expected from meeting some friends and as she came through the door told me: “I’m having a flood!” Blood everywhere, through her jeans, on the car-seat etc.
She went through a few pads while getting cleaned up and talking to her mother (an RN) on the phone. During that I’m fetching towels, tissues, plastic bags and disposing of the used stuff while trying to explain to the 4 year-old why we are running about the place.
I eventually took her to the ER where she promplty passed out while waiting to talk to the triage nurse (which gets you bumped up the waiting list pretty quickly) That she even agreed to go was what told me how scared she was -she spent some time in hospital as a young child and doesn’t like them.
After an afternoon of x-rays, ultra-sounds and physical examinations the verdict was
Apparently an abnormally heavy period, not much they can do but if it happens again they will have to do more tests.
