by the way, since when is one word of a multiple page thread a ‘prominent part’???
Well the fact that you are sensitive to it is an indication that you regard it as a serious charge. That implies that it would make more of an impression on you - even when directed at someone else - than would a charge that you did not take as seriously.
Of course. In fact I myself did not recall a single one of the posts that I linked to. But I have general recollection of the december-bashing threads, and I recall accusations of bigotry as having been a common feature of such threads. All that remained was to look up some. I think most people’s memories work this way.
As I said, it is a serious charge. Also, some of these accusations sparked subsequent discussion by other posters as to their validity.
you keep on trying to get more out of this, Izzy - are you making an accusation?
I disagree that since I resent being called a ‘bigot’ that I’d naturally remember every time anyone else was called that. Perhaps, I’d recall it if it was some one that I considered a friend and/or thought it was outlandish to call them such.
in any event, I’m not sure what you’re trying to do here.
The phrase that sparked this particular thing was something like “I recall one time” that he was called a bigot. I phrased it that way 'cause I was pretty certain that it’d happened at least once, didn’t recall specifics enough to claim anything more than ‘one time’.
on the other occasion, my statement was something like “I don’t recall having harsh words w/you before” , and lo you found some harsh words. But you see, the fact that they’d actually occured didn’t mean that I was evasive or anything about the original statement - it simply meant that poster hadn’t reached the level of my radar screen that I remembered them that way.
I rarely make absolute statements about posts in general (see?)
So, while I personally don’t recall ever calling some one a bigot, I won’t promise that I’ve never done so - I’ve certainly thought that about certain posters (no, I won’t name them), but I honestly don’t recall doing so.
and I disagree w/your assesment here
by virtue of the fact that I don’t recall who alls’ been called a bigot around here. Not in the least. I probably could come up w/a list of folks that it wouldn’t surprise me if some one had (but won’t do so), and a list of folks that I’d be astonished if some one had (but won’t do so). but to claim that because I find it personally offensive would suggest that I should make mental note of anyone’s being called that is, well, certainly wrong in my case.
again - I stated that I thought I recalled him being called that once. I was correct (if under reporting). why you think more can be made from that is beyond me.
Not at all my dear punha, no offence presumed. I suspect that if you wanted to insult someone you’d be a lot more straightforward and direct about it.
One other point, aimed mainly at debaser. If you think all criticisms of December are because he’s conservative, you’re foolish. My politics probably lie far more conservative than his, certainly more capitalist, yet I still find many of his tactics to be deeply annoying.
Anyway, I bid you all a fine weekend as I’m off to Paris to celebrate the wife’s birthday. Ta ta all, no doubt this will still be raging on monday.
