Thank you for the interesting time and change of thoughts and viewpoints.
Even when we do not agree, there is mutual respect from both sides and at the very least coming from mine.
Even those who made a sport of attacking me can count on this coming from me. Even Mehitabel with her tiring, nagging intrusive curiousity.
Even when I can not discern your reasons, that does not mean you have no right to have them. Hence there is no reason why I would judge you for having them and standing behind your convictions.
May I wish you all a very happy 2005 in which no harm comes to you.
Especially those who are in the US army and brought in danger by your government’s poilicies.
I would fight you by all means if you were send to invade my country. As you would fight me if I was invading yours. It does not mean that we are born to be enemies or that I would not invite you in my house as a friend when you come as a friend.
I, for one, hope you don’t get banned. I think you have a tendency to overreact and you often choose to take offense when no offense was intended, but you also seem like a good guy to me. If they decide to give you a warning please heed it and calm down.
Now, In case you do get banned, this’ll be my last chance to ask what your name means. The only place I’ve ever seen it is in an old sci-fi book called The First Lensman but I’m guessing that’s not where you got it. So what does it mean?
Though I don’t think we’ve ever interacted, I find you to be an interesting poster, and I really hope that you don’t get banned. I lurked off and on for quite a while before I joined even as a guest, and I remember first reading your posts before your handle on English was quite as good as it is now. I commend you for being able to learn so well, and to write in a foreign language, which for most people is more difficult than learning to speak one.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I think you add a lot to this board, and have a much different perspective on the world than other posters, which we need as much as we can get, both in real life and on the boards.
I don’t believe he’s ever answered this question, even when prodded about its inherent contradiction with most things Muslim. But that’s ancient history. Since I crossed paths with Aldebaran in his very earliest days here, I have some input on the subject:
You could look at the name Aldebaran from the perspective of astronomy – it’s the brightest star in the constellation Taurus, often depicted as the eye of the bull. Similarly, once upon a time, the Morning Star (now known as Venus) was called “Lucifer.”
[li]You could take it literally, as “follower,” since Aldebaran appears to follow the Pleiades as the cluster of stars moves across the night sky.[/li][li]Or you could view Aldebaran through the lens of minor theology. In Stregheria (a quasi-occult practice that honors Lucifer), Aldebaran is one of four fallen angels, locked in a battle against Yahweh. In this reference, Aldebaran is like Satan-Lite.
[/li]
Huh. I don’t remember ever disagreeing with you before. Well, best to get it over with in the “old year.”
**Aldebaran, ** I’ve never really paid enough attention to you to have a feeling on whether you get banned or not. I’ve seen you around, here and there, and I see (briefly) the flames that come from you (or from near you). But I read the political junk that you’re involved in, and apparently, I just don’t care enough.
Now see, this is what has made you so danged annoying: You show signs of being a thoughtful person.
THEN you turn around and act like a jerk.
My most thoughtful interaction with you has been when you’ve been trying to get over from where you’ve acted like a jerk and been asked to cease and desist.
This is infuriating, because it shows us you CAN be worthwhile, but only when you choose to be.
A public relations campaign – which is exactly what this is, and with every bit as much sincerity – cannot obscure what you’re trying to gloss over here.
You acted like a jerk.
We asked you to straighten up.
You didn’t do it. You could have, but you chose not to.
