Ease up on DaRvid. He’s clearly going through the “anger” stage of atheistic grief.
So does one adopt a fog from the cloud?
I’d rather be a dishonest Christian than someone who posts this:
I’ve been wondering about that. Is it DRavid, DaRvid, DavRid, DaviRd, or what? Is the ‘R’ in addition to, or in place of, one of the letters in ‘David’? And do I need to refresh my somewhat rusty combinatorics skillz to count all the possibilities?
What an abhorrent post, worth a Pitting of its own.
(By comparison, this born-again Christian doesn’t even find the OP in this thread worth countering, given how ridiculous it is. More of a self-owning than anything else.)
Is that the same if the affecting others on the outside is something you agree with, though? I know of many churches who advocated quite strongly FOR same-sex marriage before Obergefell. Or for example, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s deeply religious fight against Jim Crow?
A lot of progressive or liberal Christian churches believe that the Church does not exist merely for itself, or for individual believers, but to advocate for justice and peace in the world (and part of that are things like feeding/clothing the homeless and part of it is advocating for justice).
In honor of Tom Lehrer’s 90th today, the “R” is silent.
But he’s posting in English, not one of the Dravidian languages of southern India.
n/m
Maybe he’s really speaking in one of the Branch Dravidian dialects.
There are eleven possiblities, presuming he’s not doing other esoteric things besides the addition of/replacement with an R. (Combinatorics don’t apply unless he’s rearranging the letters, in which case all bets are odd.)
And I’m a pretty atheistic atheist, and even I’m not so bold as to suppose that all religion is a put on. Honestly that assumption is no better than the yahoos who claim atheists are faking it. Worse, really, because the conspiracy would be much, much wider.
No, no matter how crazy, stupid, ridiculous, or disproven their beliefs are, they still genuinely believe them. Never let it be said that humanity is a rational species.
Why is it always Christians that are singled out in these types of posts? I am genuinely curious.
For the most part, a lot of what OP explained in general behavior can be applied to any number of religions.
Because they wield the most political power in this country.
I would venture to say the OP lived among Christians instead of Muslims, Hindus, or Buddhists.
I would venture to say the OP lives among people of many religions but only sees the Christians; he may even confuse some other people for Christians. Wouldn’t be the first time I see someone mistake prayer beads from other religions for rosaries, for example.
I think you underestimate how irrational and self deluded people can be. Especially when they are taught such nonsense as kids, when they are extra vulnerable.
By the time they reach adulthood their entire personality has been warped by the nonsense they were raised to believe in. That’s the point of course; by indoctrinating children when they have no defenses, their minds can be permanently crippled to serve as vehicles for the religion. As adults they’d never buy it.
It’s a similar tactic as tobacco companies convincing people to start smoking as children. Adults aren’t likely to start smoking, so they long tried advertising to kids to hook them before they knew better.
I know. I was joking about the combinatorics.
Possibly lives among people of many religions, but if he lives in the West (and especially in the US), then he’s mostly seeing Christians trying to do end runs around the separation of church and state (which, while it’s not a constitutional principle other than in the US, is a good goddamn idea no matter where you are). There aren’t a lot of Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc trying to get their religions enshrined into law in the US, at least. Mostly Christians.
Are you trying to start a war on Christianity because this is how you get a war on Christianity.
I’m glad you are not my lawyer, as you’ve managed to post legal information more disinformed than “Americans are the only ones who have the right to bear guns”.
