That’s missing the point of my OP (don’t worry, everybody missed it). I was complaining about places that don’t have any possible way of leaving a message when there isn’t a live person anywhere in the building.
Well oftentimes, there are live people but “due to unusually high call volumes (they) are experiencing longer than average wait times. But someone will be with (me) shortly.”

You are NOT experiencing an unusually high call volume. I would hazzard to guess that any given time I call, I’m one of an average number of callers for the given time of day. You know it. I know it. The American people know it.
The only thing under-average is the number of people you’ve hired to answer the telephones. It appears to me that this above all else is what makes my wait time “longer than average.”
As an insurance agent, there is one company I call regularly. It rhymes with Ballstate. Frequently their recording is this “We are experiencing an unusually high call volume. Please try your call again later”. Click. and it just hangs up. :mad:
