I started a thread in the Pit.
A few days later, it had become acrimonious. No, really!
OK, so I sent a note to the moderator, and asked to have the thread closed, because I thought it had been a mistake to name the thread as I had, and to have put it in the Pit.
The particular moderator I had contacted emailed me a nice little letter that said, basically, “Well, I don’t think it was a mistake.”
Then she locked the thread.
So, I must be a favorite.
I wonder when I get my chocolates?

Spite.

I don’t think you’re doing yourself any favors by accusing Moderators of spiteful behavior.
Did you read Euty’s post?
Did you actually e-mail a mod and ask that the thread be closed as suggested?
Do you honestly believe you’re being discriminated against in some way? That seems to be what you are saying, and I find it a bit bizarre.
Settle down a bit.
Or maybe the mods were just confused? As pointed out by another poster in that thread, you did at one point say that other posters could continue to discuss the matter, just without your input.
Not that I know anything about how or why the Mods do what they do, I’m just grateful that they do whatever it is that they do and that they do it so well.

As for responses to e-mails: I’ve used the “report this post” feature about a dozen times since it was implemented. Out of that, I’ve gotten one personal response. Are they just being spiteful to me because I dared to step down from moderating? Probably not.
…and I know I’ve used it more than a few times, and have never received a mail.
If you honestly thought that the Mods are not closing your thread out of “spite”, why are you still even here? I don’t know about most people, but if I honestly believed that the SDMB Staff was acting spiteful towards me, that would be some sort of…warning signal…that my presence was not desired. After all, there’s 2[sup]32[/sup] - 1 other IP addresses you can go to that probably don’t hold you in contempt.

I have never before seen anyone with such a gift for posting the worst things you could think of. Every word should have been re-thought. Every line screams “THIS WAS A BAD IDEA”.
Maybe I am mistaken, but I do not feel it fair to compare racial or sexual inequality under the law, segregation, and institutional racism or sexism of a private club to the SDMB. This is a single internet message board in the corner of cyberspace. This is not equivalent to multiple States denying equal rights to Black Americans.
…The moment you post a message to the board, you lose control of it; it doesn’t matter whether it’s a perfectly-formed argument presented in copperplate script, marred by a sinlge typo, or the most stupid and ill-conceived contribution in the history of the two universes; once you click that ‘submit’ button, it’s away! - beyond your control - up until that point, you have De Facto sovreign rights over every byte of your labours.
Once it is on the board, it is in the lap of the mods - maybe you can persuade them to see your reasoning as to why it should be edited/deleted/closed, maybe you can’t. Getting pissy certainly won’t add weight to your side of any (real or perceived) disagreement though.
