You noted that the thread you wanted closed hadn’t had anyone posting to it for a while (“the other posters honored my request”) which means, then I would think, that the thread has fallen off the front page.
Locking a thread takes up more mod time/bandwidth etc (IIRC from other discussions) than merely posting etc. So, if the thread’s fallen off the front page, isn’t active, it’s probable that they opted to not slow down the board to officially lock it.
emailing a mod always gets a quicker response to requests such as ‘please lock this’.
as for “report this post”, I think I’ve gotten maybe one response from that (vs. an email - I usually would get a response to that).
and sometimes, they’ve apparently agreed w/me that the post was offensive or the poster was a troll, and I see that by actions later, and other times, they’ve not agreed (apparently).

Why on earth do you think this? Your equal rights as a citizen don’t extend to the SDMB. The people who run this message board have the right to do just about whatever they want, with regards to closing threads and deleting posts. You only have the right to remain silent.

Who exactly do you think “they” is? You seem to have the idea that the moderators were sworn in at some secret ceremony at the Justice League, where they vow to do only good and true things on the Internet. (In actuality, I’m told it’s more of an informal ceremony in the alley behind a porn store, involving a bottle of Mad Dog and some sort of “shower”. But I could be wrong.)
I think it’s funny that Suspenderzz can come in here and insult everyone who is married, a stay at home mom, reports child abuse, posts to a message board and has friends that our bourgeois, but say one thing about her child and she’s reporting offense.

Rather than just assuming the mods hadn’t seen your request to close the thread, you assume they’re playing favorites and deliberately not closing it out of spite. Are you this paranoid about everything?
We treat posters like adults here. People are perfectly free to pose whatever topic they like, as long as they stay within loose guidelines and forum description. How people present topics, and themselves, is entirely their choice. But they’ve also chosen to participate in a highly public venue. If the presentation is inappropriate–too flirty, hostile, in-your-face, inane, whatever–it was still willingly put right out there.
We don’t–and can’t–scurry around after people, trying to protect them from themselves. Anyone starting a controversey or taking a hostile stance should be prepared for a reaction. Don’t start fires if you can’t stand heat. Sometimes threads go awry after a harmless start, and that’s a different matter. But tossing molotov cocktails and running is quite another. Suspenderzzz, you may regard having your opinions disliked “a badge of honor” but grow a spine to hang it from already. We aren’t convenient shields for you to hide behind, or weapons for your use against others.

Now, people, don’t be so excessive. Raising a healthy chip requires a certain amount of shoulder strain, and chips will just never thrive if they’re not aired out for the public to ooh and aah at.

If she truly believes that moderator spite is equal to colored water fountains, she’s truly off the deep end. If she’s doing it for the “'intellectual exercise, and to try to better understand the opposite side of the issue,” as she said in her OP of the linked thread, she has a grave misunderstanding of both what the other side is and what “intellectual” means. Either way, the result is the same: the most assinine logic I’ve ever seen this side of Area 51.
It’s clear that the mods spend most of their free time thinking and gossiping about Suspenderzzz–that only figures, since she’s certainly the only member of this board to hold any unconventional views whatsoever, and we all know that the mods make a policy of examining each post minutely and keeping close track of all thirty thousand of us, just so they know who to slight.
And don’t you people realize that her foremothers fought and died so she could have a priveleged, bohemian life? She’s not a loser like the rest of us. From her elevated station, she can see all of our flaws, and has the right, nay, the duty, to point them out to us. We, of course, being losers, can’t ever aspire to criticize her, and she’s right to tell us so. And how could we be so cruel as to wound her artistic soul? Of course it’s a question of civil rights! My goodness, have the members here no sense of proportion?
