I’m trying hard, really hard to take Brats word, but there are still a few things that just don’t add up.
Why would someone go to so much work gathering information on Bratman to pull off a stunt like this?
Assuming that someone is bored enough to go to all that work, why did they feel so sure that Bratman and/or BooBoo would not see such an obvious thread?
Why was Boo Boo still on the board while this was going on but failed to say anything about the “accident”?
When did she tell Bratman about Odz’s posts?
What about the calling Brat and hanging up the phone crap?
Everything, including the conversations between Brat and Boo Boo just seem a little too off. I can’t put my finger on it, but there is something not quite right.
Anyone can throw together a webpage for an imaginary friend.
Again, if I am proven wrong I will apologize up one side and down the other, but until then I just have this hinky feeling that most of this is the melodrama of one very disturbed individual.
BratMan has been a very entertaining poster practically from the day he got here so I want to believe in his version of things. Boo Boo’s Tigress however seems like a very unstable person and right off the bat that confuses me because the only reason I can figure BratMan would be with such a ninny is she is one hell of a piece of ass. Forgive me for being so disrespectful, but none of this makes sense. Tigress’s posting style is too slow-witted for her to be posing as the troll. So either we have a troll who went to a lot of trouble to make BratMan look bad, trouble by-the-way that could have blown up in his face 5 minutes after he posted the first “bad news about BratMan” thread if BratMan actually had replied to the thread right away, which makes you wonder if a troll would have even bothered to start the thread. Or BratMan is the troll and in which case is probably the insipid girlfriend too.
As Falcon said the whole thing is a little too convenient. Hell, I was suspicious about the first thread about Wally’s horrible accident too, since I didn’t know enough about him to know if what was being said could be independently corroborated, but I became satisfied when so many posters believed it as the truth. BratMan however seems to lack independent corroboration and my suspicions are growing rather than diminishing.

Well, Oat Willie has confessed to being behind the recent month-long rash of trolls. I couldn’t really figure out why he bothered, but cobbling together enough details on BratMan to pull a major troll like this one seems well within his capacity.
Now consider: if you were planning a major troll like this, with the intention of upsetting *the whole board,*doesn’t someone like BratMan make an attractive target? Someone well-established enough that other people know who he is and would care, but new enough that other posters wouldn’t pick up on a fabrication right away. Additionally, he just introduced his girlfriend to the board, so an additional “friend” is plausible. Pulling in pieces from his Web page, it wouldn’t take too much work to put together a believable post.
I imagine Odz Bodkin was hoping for a few hours of trollery before his thread was exposed as a fraud. Seems like that emotional whiplash would have been nasty enough. That it lasted as long as it did was a bonus. I’m sure he’s cackling in glee.
Well, at least you offered. I admit, the current “guilty until proven innocent” mentality disturbs me. Frankly, I’m surprised that a pretty vocal faction is jumping on BratMan and Tigress, without proof, while ignoring the possibility that, shall we say, previous problem posters are responsible. Chalk up points for Odz Bodkin, I guess.

Well, the vocal faction has gotten corroboration from the mods that there’s a good possibility of something going on. See, Odz Bodkin and Bratman were posting from the same IP addresses. While that’s not proof of a connection, given what’s been going on, I’d say the chances of it being coincidental are pretty slim.

You see, these messages were posted by one of his co-workers in that 24-hour shop. They all of a sudden developed a keen interest in the SDMB. But they didn’t want to do a quick, “BratMan is a pussy” post on his favorite message board. Instead they spent an extraordinary amount of time gathering minutia about his life, and then posting this elaborate melodrama. And it just happened to be at a time when he wouldn’t see it for days.
Meanwhile, his unstable girlfriend who, apparently, isn’t quite 14 years old yet, (an odd choice for a former – ahem – military intelligence veteran – ahem) posts all over the board, but somehow misses a thread named “Bad News About BratMan007,” a thread that rests at the top of MPSIMS for at least a day.
Also read nothing into the fact that most Tigress posts are immediately followed by BratMan posts. It is just another coincidence. As is the fact that, when he talks to her in a very odd, admonishing way, she never seems to have a reply. No “fuck you”; no “yes, master.” Nada.
Who should have been the most infuriated person by all of this melodrama? Did you say BratMan? I agree.
Did you get the sense that The Prodigal Son was furiously outraged when he made his return? Me either.
So is he down at his shop, ready to kick ass and use those fighting skills or powers of deduction from his “military intelligence” days to get to the bottom of this?

And I was only gone for the weekend! I still can’t seem to get the whole scoop and I’ve been trying to figure this out all day. I gotta say that I like Brat, and I sincerely hope he is not behind this.
Also, can someone show me where OatWillie confessed to the recent trollery? I’d like the scoop on that one, too.

Okay, my first instinct was that the whole accident was a hoax. It made perfect sense. Tigress had cost Bratman some credibility, and that would have not only gotten him back in good graces, but would have also resulted in sympathy for her,too. But she knew nothing about it and said he was fine. If Bratman set this whole thing up, wouldn’t he include her, since he knows she’s been spending a lot of time playing on the boards? Surely he would need her to back up the story in order to garner even more sympathy. Plus, it would have given Tigress an out to all the mudslinging, given nobody on here would have trashed her while she was worried sick over Bratman. I don’t think it would have been hard for him to get her involved if it was truly his plan. On the other hand, I know for a fact that my co workers would never go to that much trouble to piss me off, so who knows?
My working knowledge of how you identify IP addresses is slim to none, but could this be a scenario?
Maybe it was his girlfriend? It’s entirely possible that she, knowing he was working on the firewall problems, became Odz. He could have used the same connection to post the retraction/correction (not knowing)and gone back to his normal range of IP addresses later.
She does seem rather unstable, and I just can’t see any reason for Bratman to do this. He was well liked, his posts were popular and funny, why screw with that?
Unless he was displeased with BBT’s less than stellar welcome and decided to go out with a bang as retaliation. Still, I can’t believe someone with his charm would want to hang with such a loony, let alone care if others welcomed her.
I’m surprised at the number of people who named Bratman as one of their favorite posters. Personally, none of the 50-posts-a-day-in-MPSIMS-people are anywhere NEAR my favorites. I don’t even understand why the MPSIMS’ers are here. I have nothing against MPSIMS, unless it’s the ONLY place you post. There are plenty of other mundane,pointless message boards on the 'net to waste your time on. Go there, and save yourself the embarassment you cause yourselves when you try to post in GD,GQ, or the Pit.
