I prefer to think of it as zugzwang.
In principle, I am not opposed to golden showers, but that would just be too much.
Out of interest, what principle of yours would that be breaking?
At least let him invade Poland first. Geez.
Good GOD! I think I’m in love !
I would make such sweet love to you !
I swear I’m gettin’ the vapors!
Re: dancing on graves
When I was a young child (3-6 yrs old), I expereinced severe physical and sexual abuse at the hands of my Stepfather (Henry). I also witnessed (was often “forced” to witness) the same sort of treatment towards my mom and my siblings.
As soon as she could my mom got away from him, (divorce was hard to get back in the 60’s). She got my brother and I into therapy asap, knowing that what we had ALL gone through was bad.
I am now a well adjusted, albiet nonconformist contributing individual to society.
In 1994, I found “Henry”'s grave and peed on it
I have to tell you, that that simple act did more to free me than 15 yrs of therapy… although 15 yrs of therapy gave me the courage to do so.
I should add that I did not “seek” Henry’s Grave. my job took me to the town where I knew it was… one night… I just got up, left the motel, and just… well… did it…
Have felt free-er ever since…
Regards

Well, that’s a personal matter, FML. I kind of think that’s a different thing.
So now the story of why Winkleried gave up being a moderator comes out!
Since I don’t spend a lot of time in the Pit or GD, I don’t tend to notice asshattery on the part of particular posters. But in this thread and the lottery thread, it seems to me that jtgain is being an ass. Can any regular readers tell me whether this is normal, or have I misjudged the situation?
A few points/questions:
(1) You’ll note that while there were certainly some number of generally-left-people pissing on Helms’s grave in that thread, there were also at least some who were admonishing them for doing so. And a vastly larger number not participating in the thread at all (and, thus, NOT pissing on his grave).
(1a) Speaking just for myself, I generally find it tasteless and mannerless to speak spitefully and ill of the dead, although it’s hardly something I get worked up about. So I’m closer to the admonishers than the grave-pissers. BUT, and this is a hugely important point, while I vehemently disagree with Helms’s anti-black, anti-gay, and anti-AIDS-research stances, I myself am personally straight and white, and know basically no one with AIDS. So, while I found his positions to be hateful and unAmerican, they weren’t positions that were directly personally directed at, or harming, or affecting, me. Thus, I don’t see myself as being able to judge the level of hatred or anger that someone might have who had personally suffered from the laws and policies that Helms worked towards, or who had seen loved ones suffer.
(2) “If liberals are all so tolerant, how come they’re so nasty about X” is an old and tired and basically meaningless comment which, quite frankly, is beneath you. First of all, any such observation is almost invaraibly about some number of liberals. Liberals might be 85% nicer, on average, than conservatives (just as an example), but that wouldn’t stop there from being a fairly large number of raging liberal assholes, and a fairly large number of very nice conservatives. Secondly, it’s a gross and silly generalization to say that the modern liberal movement is about being “tolerant” and, therefore, “nice”. But that’s been discussed at greater length elsewhere.
(3) Finally, (and I realize that this might sound like petulant “but it’s DIFFERENT for us” whining), I don’t think there’s really someone on the left who is the equal and opposite mirror image of Jesse Helms, or even anything close to it. Helms’ sins were (among other things) racism and homophobia. What’s the liberal equivalent of racism and homophobia*? Extreme hatred of and condescension towards Christians? Extreme hatred of and condescension towards gun owners? Is there a public figure on the left who is a leading, public, unapologetic exemplar of both of those movements, and also a popular, powerful, elected official? And one who had great success legally enforcing his views?
Suppose there were someone who is as much of an asshole as Michael Moore and Richard Dawkins at their worst and most abrasive, who was also a powerful prominent senator for many years. (It’s clearly laughable that someone who was as vocally and openly anti-Christian as Helms was anti-Gay could ever get elected from either party, but that’s neither here nor there.) If so, are you claiming that there would be no verbal grave-pissing at Free Republic.com and its equivalents when that person died?
Wow…all I can say is, wow…
I don’t see any difference between the Helms thread and the Kennedy thread.
Threads are what posters make of them, not what the OP wants them to be. In any case, I’m not at all convinced that 2.5 was trolling in this instance.
Stalin was a million times worse. Pol Pot, too. Castro is a pretty big bastard. And Hugo Chávez is a prick.
Uhhhhhhh… wow. Talk about a response that completely misses the point AND totally ruins any chance of further meaningful communcation in the thread. Well done, sir, well done.
So typical of today’s lefties, always trying to evade their personal responsibility for Stalin. No accountability.
