Nuttin’, Honey? ![]()
<sigh> You bad boys…
I’m puzzled…what do they get out of it?
Damned if I know. Some people are desperate for any kind of attention, even negative attention. Others are just amused by fooling others.
That is completely beyond my ken.
THAT’S the best you got?
To be fair, most trolls like that don’t return and comment, which this guy did. I wasn’t going to respond, but it seemed like he was sticking around. No harm done, in any case.
I’m guessing they do it just out of sheer boredom sometimes. Or to see if people will fall for it.
Since I never read the original thread (and cannot remedy this now), all I have is what you give me.
Ok. That makes sense. Withdrawn. ![]()
From what I’ve gleamed, the point is to get exactly what happened here. One person knows they’re trolling and says something, another person fights them about it, and it becomes a big thing.
They enjoy causing drama and getting attention. And people getting upset over something they know is stupid amuses them.
You’re mistaking Net.weenies for Trolls.
If you’re really interested here’s an article on the birth of a troll.

As you can see, we don’t get trolls here. We get the sdmb version of the net.weenie.
How many people remember, and used usenet?
Herpes?
Ouch, that’s gonna leave a mark!
Does it say rebeW?
I was at a bar celebrating my birthday this weekend. I had a very good time. When we left, I told a friend I had to save some strength, as I celebrate birthdays for an entire week. It is the way of my people.
Now, I’m just a white mongrel dude. But I got two messages since then from people who weren’t even present at the bar, asking my nationality and what the deal was with week-long birthday celebration. Discussion apparently hit the grapevine.
I wasn’t intentionally trolling, but if I had been, I’m thinking I would have enjoyed the outcome of my silly throw-away remark.
I like to think ALL my remarks are silly throw-aways.
And in true SMDB fashion, I’ll nitpick that they flat out say net.weenies are a subtype of troll.
I remember it, but I never used it because my ISP didn’t provide the service, and the few servers I tried telnetting into were either boring or incomprehensible. And the text-based software was subpar.
