I can’t even imagine someone doing something like that. The coffeehouse I go to will have music every now and then. They also have wireless internet and many people will be using their laptops. However, I’ve never seen anyone playing music from them.
I enjoy hearing live music at coffeehouses. Even if I didn’t, I’d would rather talk to the manager than try to drown out the musicians playing. I’ve certainly walked out of a few bars when I didn’t like the bar band.
Did this dipshit dickwad even buy something? Coffee, muffin, etc?
If that’s the case then it would be rather easy just to throw the bastard out.
Biffy, being a musician myself (electric guitar), every now and then you run into pieces of shit like this.
By the way, if he was trying to make a point about your “loud music” how much of an annoyance could it have been to him? Does he live right above the coffee shop and have to put up with the raucous “cacophony” of an acoustic guitar and flute?
This guy’s an asshole.
Biffy, sorry for that rudeness during your set, what a jerk! The folks in charge really should have asked him to move away from the stage area. I do like featherlou’s approach, though. What comes to my mind is to stop playing, feign a moment of confusion, and address Mr. Laptop point blank: “Oh, Hey, we were thinking of playing (whatever insert a song’), but could use some help…do ya mind googling it up for us?And turn the speakers up so we can play along. Yeah, great, thanks a bajillion!”
Googling would be the key laugh word. Hindsight is so wonderful. But, some fodder for future gigs of that sort. Hope it’s all better next time.

No offense, but some people just don’t dig acoustic guitar and/or flute music. I’m not saying it was a nice thing or the right thing for him to do, but it IS a logical explanation.

But wouldn’t most people just leave? How did he get the balls to think that he decides who plays at the coffee house? Weren’t they hired by the owner because he obviously thought people would enjoy them…
What if he decided he didn’t like other things the owners hired people to produce? What if he continually unplugged the espresson maker because he didn’t think the owner should be offering espresso?
