To the fuckwads that started the fire

They’ve evacuated more subdivisions just northwest of Woodland Park. Woodland Park (which incidentally was where the Texas Seven ended their flight from authorities) is on stand-by for possible evacuations.

The winds shifted pretty dramatically today and it started raining ash, charred wood and even pine needles here in C Springs and points north. The smoke and smell has been extremelly thick and uncomfortable where I live.

I am about 20-25 miles as the crow flies from the fires and this is just a small sample of what is blowing in http://fff.fathom.org/pages/techchick68/charcoal2.jpg]Bits in my yard.

The woman is being held and no chance for bail. They say she is a flight risk. Police were parked outside her property today to ensure that no one in the area did anything to her property to retaliate.

Conflicting reports are ranging from 10-20 years in prison and $250,000 - $750,000 in fines.

Pretty damn stupid shit, if you are that pissed off at your ex, to start a fire like this. I suspect there is more to the story. Stupid bitch. Crap, most of my friends that smoke decided long before the fire not to flick our ashes out our vehicles when driving.

Crap, messed up my link.

Tech, was the Hercules water bomber which crashed earlier today (we saw footage of the crash on the news about an hour ago, but I didn’t catch the location) involved in fighting the CO fires or was it in one of the other states?

It was in California, I believe from fighting a fire in the Yosemite National Forest. What a horrible tragedy, people trying to help other people shouldn’t die.

Oh yeah - one of our news reports said that the State of Colorado is going to file suit against this fuckpoodle due to the impact of the fires on the state economy. Of course getting a judgement against her and getting actual money from her are two different things.

Forget the judgement. Put her in a locked room with everyone who lost their home or a loved one.

Reprise, the funny thing is, most of Colorado is the same beautiful Colorado that most people see in images. Our governor really screwed up with some comments he made from the beginning. It doesn’t help that people like me are bitching about it but it’s a big deal for us since our main income is tourism.

So if anyone has any plans to visit Colorado, please don’t cancel them. Just make sure to check the restrictions before you leave through your travel agent or on the internet. Most places are not affected by the fires.

We are having a family reunion this summer here in C Springs, I hope that the fires haven’t scared off our family members from out of state. I haven’t talked to my dad to see if they are backing out. He’s worked pretty hard to make it a nice reunion for everyone.

Oh and reprise, I hadn’t heard anything about the State of CO filing suit but there is so much information out there about all the fires I may have missed it.

Not that this little bit really adds to anything techchick said, but I’ve been away from the board for a while so figured I’d add something.

I live on the north side of the springs, and its bloody ridiculous. I didnt even notice it until mid afternoon, but when I did I couldnt even go outside without my eyes burning. This was the first time that it’s really been noticable here, (or atleast I’ve noticed it) and since most of their containment efforts are focused north of the fire, it really has * me * worried. Not so much about the fire itself, but possible looting that would occur if I had to evacuate. The whole situation with the fire really didn’t sink in with me until today. It was a surreal feeling looking outside, seeing haze around most of the horizon, and smelling thick smoke.

Then again, I really have no right to whine when some have already lost their homes.

shrugs That’s my two cents, anyways, and sorry this post isnt really coherent and worthy of the flame fest (no pun intended) usually seen in the pit.

Pathos, where in C Springs do you live? I am in the Briargate area off Rangewood and Briargate Blvd.

Wow, that’s TWO people from C Springs that have popped up saying they live here in the last couple of weeks. Other than Lexicon (now banned) I thought I was the only C Springs Doper.

BTW, for those that don’t understand “as the crow flies.”

Yes it would probably take me 30-40 minutes or so to actually drive to Woodland Park from my house. The fires are reportedly about 6 miles from WP. But I took out the topo map I have of the state and measured it straight from approximately where my neighborhood is located and we are about 18 miles directly. This doesn’t take into account elevation changes and such.

I didn’t mention being a C Springs Doper before because I was at college in Utah for a while, and as you can tell, I’m not that active on the board. (when I WAS active, I was in utah)

I live off of Flintridge and Dublin (I think its dublin). I used to live in Rockrimmon and am not used to my new address. Thats also why I consider myself on the “north side.” (because I still think of myself in Rockrimmon.) THen again, you’re a bit north from where I am, and I know exactly where that is. Been by that area many times.

For those who feel bad about complaining about the smoke - during the Sydney bushfires last year the pollution index rose so high that asthmatics were advised to stay indoors and to call an ambulance in the event of an asthma attack rather than try to get to hospital by themselves. Our house smelt like an incinerator for weeks, and it’s taken my asthmatic daughter 6 months and several courses of steroids to recover from the damage done by a couple of weeks of bushfire smoke.

Pathos, if they fight fires there anything like they do here, looting isn’t a major concern - when areas are evacuated NO-ONE is allowed back in, including the residents, until the danger has passed.

Sheesh, I could almost walk to your house! I wouldn’t but could, hehe because I am of the lazy sort.

Well, welcome back home and you are still considered on the north end of town where you are.

Cool, right on and all that stuff, nice to meet you!

It was a freaky day. Where my house sits I can see Austin Bluffs and parts of Rangewood on the south part (Norwood just beyond Cottonwood Park) and early you couldn’t hardly see it. Normal days it’s clear and pretty. I can also see Woodmen from my office and even that was hard to see earlier.

It sucks big time. They said we should be experiencing the same tomorrow.

< oh and pit like doesn’t mean you have to come in here and flame everything, it can be a normal discussion about crappy events >

Actually, I should qualify that statement. Looting of HOUSES isn’t a concern - inevitably, firefighting and other emergency equipment is stolen from the firetrucks. :frowning:

reprise, we had a health warning about that earlier today. In the past days, it’s been primarily the Denver area that has issued those warnings but it was bad here today. If you didn’t see the picture I posted (since I screwed up the link) http://fff.fathom.org/pages/techchick68/charcoal2.jpg gives you an idea of the particles that were blowing through our area today. If those big chunks blew in then you can imagine the smaller particles for people with respiratory problems that came through.

At one point I was literally sick to my stomach. I can’t imagine what it’s like up closer to the fire. Blech.

I’m a big whiney girl, but this has been a strange thing, very strange. When I saw those in my yard I was shocked. I have never seen anything like this before so it’s all new to me.

Yeah, I just mentioned the looting because the “news” did. They have national guardsmen standing by in any case, and it hasn’t been an issue in the areas that have been evacuated already.

Yeah My house is the same way. I can see past to woodmen and another street (union?) and today I couldnt. (sorry, I know the springs pretty well but still havent figured out where I live yet, LOL.)

Same here about never seeing this before. I looked outside and saw ASH falling from the sky, and it really was weird. I could smell it inside my house, but not until I walked outside did I realize how stronge it was. It had a real effect on me.

I think thats why its just so “amazing” to a lot of people here. Hearing about forest fires is one thing, but living and breathing one (so to speak) is another.

Techchick, does the water now taste really gross to you? Before today it wasn’t that bad, but now it leaves a bad aftertaste.

I haven’t noticed any problems with the water at all.

I had several glasses earlier today but haven’t tried any this evening. It could be that your nose is still covered in smoke particles. I have blown my nose several times since the smoke died down tonight and am enjoying the last of a beer before I go to bed.

We tend to taste that which we smell so it could be that.

Be back tomorrow night, I am in need of some sleep and have to babysit tomorrow so I will check you all out tomorrow.

Nice to “meet” ya Pathros!

God. I just saw the footage of the Hercules crashing in California. It made me feel a bit sick; quite horrible to watch. Definitely the sort of stuff that should be shown to all convicted arsonists.
