Well, I guess by this theory, the two main parties used today in the U.S., have failed miserably.
The two major parties have actually run governments. No libertarian has ever run anything.
Just because they haven’t, does not mean that they cannot.
As to not hi-jack this thread, I myself would have let the women use the bathroom. It would take a lot of guts for myself to ask a stranger to use the bathroom in their home. Maybe she really had to go? Although I may take a mental note of the bathroom to make sure nothing is missing afterward. You gotta admit, it’s not everyday a stranger asks to use the bathroom in your home. Hell, even if she took some towels or something, she could’ve used them more then I could.
Come now. A thousand posts and you’ve been here as long as you have, and you didn’t see this reaction coming to your over the top bullshit?
:dubious:
Karl, (and the OP knows why I call him that even though I’m fully aware his username is Kel) first you say you “hate homeless people”, then you say you have no problem with them per se… which is it?
Yet another reason, thank Og, that you should never move to Tucson. I’ve suddenly become very grateful for our large homeless population.
I just want to reiterate that you suck as a human being. I truly believe this.
You have feelings?
Wow, that has got to be one of the most assholish, fuckheaded things I have seen on the boards. Fuck you!
Hey, since you’re practically proposing camps anyway, why not just go the extra step and euthanize, that’s what ol’ Adolf did. Just so, y’know, no one bothers you.
May your farts always be wet, fuckwad.
Interestingly, particularly considering your username, I advised my kids to knock on a “Safety House” door on the way home from school if they needed to perform some “ablutions” and wouldn’t make it home. Luckily Kel was not a neighbour.
You know Kel, I’ve been reasonable to you in a couple of threads. Now I feel like an idiot for that.
I’ve been (briefly) homeless. I’ve known homeless people who were better ladies and gentlemen than a lot of other people I’ve known. Fuck you, and may you suffer the obvious Karmic irony you so richly deserve.
My argument is that an attempt to run a government would quickly require them to abandoned their pure principles, as they’ve done even as a political party.
Faithfool, that was a moving post. I wish you happiness and success in your life - you’ve worked damn hard for it.
Don’t be ashamed of using the government for help - it’s what we pay taxes for, and what you, in your periods of employment have also paid for. Anyone who’s not a troll, or an utter ass understands that there are people who legitimately need these services, and that a majority of people using assistance do so without trying to ‘cheat the system’. I can’t think of a better use for my tax money than to have it be there for people in need. Better that it helps you than gets misused and wasted by the bureaucracy.
Kel sounds like a lot of the ‘rage against the machine’ stripe with the added ‘fuck everyone who doesn’t contribute directly to my wellbeing’ mentality. Most of them grow out of it. Compassion is generally lacking in the immature.
Do you have family who live in Wichita, Kel? You’re beginning to sound very much like a jackass named Clint who lives there.
To everybody in the Latex Division–Rock out with your cock out, you crazy fuck.
You’re welcome. God go with you, my dear.
When did society become a team? I must’ve missed the group hug. Here I was thinking it was a hierarchy.
Hmm
There is no I in team, Rooves. (Though there is one in quit.)
On a serious note, I missed faithfool’s post in my rush to denounce Kel for his idiotic bigotry.
faithfool, I wish you the best of luck. The phrase “It’s always darkest before the dawn” may be trite, but it is sometimes true. Please don’t give up hope.
Thank you so very much Maendosa, Liberal and Larry. Your compassion and thoughtfulness is what makes it worth the struggle despite the immature, misguided and willfully ignorant of the world.
I appreciate you showing your wonderful sense of humanity to me.
And I promise to keep busting my ass until I get there. No matter how long it takes (although 8 years already seems like an eternity) or the obstacles involved. Yes Kel, I’m looking at you.
Also, just so you know Kel, I do believe this is my first time to ever go off that harshly on someone here. Even in the Pit. I can’t express enough how disappointed I become in certain people. You definitely do need to grow a heart, learn a few lessons and realize that everyone is not as blessed as you.
Much peace and happiness to y’all in return. Seventy fold times seventy.
Did I say how grateful I am for this? I so love this place.

Step riiiiiight up, Ladies, Gentlemen, and Bottmfeeding 'Pubbies!
Place yer bets here!
How long before ** Kel Varnsen - Latex Division** gets banned?
Place yer bets!
Okay, I’ve gotta risk getting myself in trouble here and stand with the people who have said “The homeless problem is not as touchy-feely as all that.”
Recently I’ve been working in a public library, which is where many homeless people spend their days after they close the shelters up in the morning. So yes, I come into contact with them day in and day out, probably more than many of you.
Some of them are down on their luck - they use the library to stay warm, look for jobs, read the paper. These people are a legitimate part of our information providing mission.
Some of them are seriously mentally ill or handicapped in other ways; many of them I’m sure self-medicate in various ways, many of them could probably lead happy productive lives if provided with the appropriate medication. I think this is very sad, and we leave them alone if they don’t cause problems. I wish our public mental health facilities were better equipped to deal with these people; as it is I’m sure many end up in prison.
Some of these have situations I don’t understand; a few of them at least live in shelters while receiving pensions from various places, like the military. (Of course, I have no idea how much these pensions are.) Some of them may have homes but just spend all day in the library; none of my business. Some of them panhandle elsewhere, some don’t. One wears a crown and a sign and spouts colorful crazy talk in various places around the city; for Christmas he acquired a black Santa outfit and his sign proclaimed him to be “King Santa”. I don’t know what he was yelling outside but he never panhandles and seems entirely harmless. Some of them do choose to be homeless, it seems. It’s a very complicated issue, and every situation is very different.
But some of these people are dangerous. We have an excellent security staff who work very hard hard to keep us safe, but I am afraid of some of these people, not because they have no money and smell a bit and take baths in the sink, but because they are dangerous people. Not all homeless people are Noble Kind Creatures Down On Their Luck and if we Just Lent Them a Hand they’d Pull Themselves Up By Their Bootstraps. And not all of them are mentally ill and have no treatment options. Not all of them are homeless by choice, either, although I know somebody who basically was - he didn’t want to follow his dad’s rules, so he slept under a bridge. And not all of them are dangerous criminals, although some of them certainly are.
So while I think Kel is as much of a douchebag as the rest of you do, and I won’t soon forgive him for the child-beating thread, I think it’s naive and disengenuous to despise him for not liking the homeless, because some of them are very unlikeable. I don’t, at the same time, wish to tar everybody who dosen’t have a home with the same brush, but there are perfectly valid reasons to feel fear and loathing for some of these people (not all!), trust me.
IMHO Zsofia, that’s a completely different story. There are violent people out there of every race/sex/religion and you (and everyone else) have the right to protect yourself against them. So, I wouldn’t think there’d be any worry about the sentiment you express. And you went out of your way to make it clear that you understand and feel empathetic to a lot of the issues that have been brought up here.
I believe that’s all anyone wanted to bring attention to in the first place. To explain to Kel that there’s more than one side to the story and he needed to reconsider his attitude if he didn’t have all the facts. However, seemingly he’s just an asshole, so perhaps this is only good if it enlightens others who may not have ever thought about particulars.
But again, you sound very level-headed and your reasoning well thought-out. If I do end up in that position, maybe I can come hang out at your library. (I also promise that if I must bathe in the sink, I’ll clean up after myself and not shout at my little green martians in non-fiction.)
You’s good folks.
