Eh, no worries, racin. It was just a silly play on words, since the phrase Jodi used was very similar to another. I’m certain TGU didn’t mean anything by it.
Actually, and I am sorry to disappoint, I did mean something by it – I simply cannot subscribe to the thesis that cops are, on the whole, more awesome than the general population (or even, telemarketeers).
However, the whole idea of unpaid non-criminal violations (a moving violation is usually an “infraction”, and I am assuming th eoriginal violation wasn’t something like drunk driving) turning into warrants with a night in jail is bullshit.
I had the same thing happen to me. The Judge was fairly angry at the cop and tossed the second violation that caused him the cop to pull me over and check for “warrants”. It turned out the “warrant” was simply a glitch, and I wasn’t wanted after all (yes, there was a warrant, but I had also paid the ticket, it just wasn’t recored right). The cop was abusive, and gloating. AFter I complained about the handcuffs being too tight, he tightened them. He had my car towed. And, since my watch had a scratch on the back, he also charged me with “possesing an item with a marked or altered serial number”- a “crime” the ADA had never heard of, and was also dismissed after me having to show up three times- for no-shows by the ADA and “continuances”.
Too many cops are real badge heavy. True, the actaul number is rather sall, but that is still 'too many"- especially as the “code” is for other police officers (the majority of the good ones) to not tell on their bad apple comrades.
Well, oh keeprs of the blue line- you can be the best police officer in the USA, moral, upstanding, polite, fair and never abusive- but of you turn a blind eye to your fellow officers crimes- you’re a bad cop too.
In any case- “infractions” should NOT turn into warrant and misdomeaners. They should simply go through civil collection procedings.
But mine was not a glitch, and I kew well and good that there were consequences for not doing as required. I forgot about the ticket and it came back to bite me in the ass. I feel that if someone knows about the consequences of their actions, regardless of how unfair those consequences may be, they have no right to complain about what happens. If a person makes an informed decision to break a law, basically, get over it…Walk it off. I paid my fine and accepted the required result of my actions. The required result did not include the officer being a dick. That’s all I’m tryin’ to say.
I whole heartedly agreed that officers that turn their backs on corruption are as corrupt as the other cop.
Ah.
“More awesome?” As in, better people? No, of course not.
But wouldn’t you say that they might owe a greater duty of care than, say, a telemarketer?
Yes, most verily.
